Run
Comments: Aquathlon started simulatenously with the 5K race start. Went out too fast on first mile: 6:17. Subsequent splits were 7:00 and 7:38. Was passed by the 1st place finished toward the end of the run. Pleased with the time though. What would you do differently?: Would have probably finished faster with even or negative splits. Transition 1
Comments: Good T1. Ditched the run hat, shoes, socks, sunglasses. Packed up goggles and ran to pool area. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Swim
Comments: Saw leader a couple of lanes over doing breaststroke and resting, so I knew I could catch him. However, I was so fatigued from the run that I ended up using the swim as a recovery. 1st Female finisher got in the water and passed me right after I got in. I stayed pretty even with her but couldn't catch her. Passed the lead male on the next to last lane. What would you do differently?: Hopefully, better pacing on the run would have left me less exhausted and able to gain more ground on the swim. Transition 2
Comments: Had the fastest transition here. Ditched the goggles, slipped on shoes without socks while standing up, grabbed subglasses and hat, and went. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: This was about just holding on. I had little left in the tank, and the hills were really beating me up. Heard the guy I had passed on the swim behind me on the second lap. He passed me, and I couldn't really respond. Saw the lead woman walking one of the hills, and I thought I might have a chance to catch her. Wasn't clear if she was in a relay or not. Thought it might look bad to go sprinting past her in the chute. Didn't have much left to catch her anyway, but I did make a good sprint at the finish. What would you do differently?: Back to pacing. See above. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and stretched. Waited for awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: Bad decision-making around pacing. Low mental toughness to respond to competitors. Event comments: Small, low key race. Homemade awards for the winners. Bananas, oranges, cookies, and water afterwards. One woman at check-in was telling everyone to put down their age as of the end of LAST YEAR rather than this year, so my age group was wrong. Hopefully USAT will fix it. Set up cute little transition area with towel and googles.
Really didn't get to warm up between the pool and run pre-race meetings and the late start.
