Swim
Comments: The start of my race didn't go so well. It was a time trial start, and I had #126 based on my self-given 500m swim time. The RD kind of started with the first bib numbers, but then people just lined up and he was letting them go. I guess he said if you thought you should have been seeded higher you could move up. I should have moved forward. But I didn't, and when it was my turn I went fast.....and promptly slipped and fell backwards on my butt and hands! LOL that's what I get. I bruised my hand pretty good, it still hurts a day later. I didn't go real hard but I thought I was swimming pretty smooth and thought it was a 1:50-1:55 pace. I guess it was a bit slower. But other folks said their times were slow too, so maybe the course was long. There was a pretty good run from the swim exit to T1, so maybe that's the difference. Either or, not great but not horrible. What would you do differently?: Swim faster! Easier said than done. Transition 1
Comments: I really need to learn this flying mount/dismount thing and get my transition times down. What would you do differently?: Move faster. Maybe actually practice transitions once in awhile? Bike
Comments: Since I started back a bit in the swim, this was strictly a TT with no one to race. That's what I thought, until I saw a dude at mile 3 with a "35" on his leg. Oh, it was on then! I had no idea how many more in my AG were in front of me, but I wasn't gonna let this guy get away. We traded positions back and forth a bit, never any illegal drafting though. We got to the turnaround at Heartbreak Hill around the same time, and then he flew down it. I guess I wasn't quite as daring as I stayed out of aero as my speed was going up to 40 mph. Guess I need to HTFU! But I caught him again around mile 11, and passed him around mile 12.5. We came into transition around the same time, but he did the flying dismount and I had to stop my bike and unclip. So uncool! Here is the ride: http://app.strava.com/rides/11539698 What would you do differently?: Not much, I thought this ride was a pretty solid TT. Maybe practice some more descents while in aero so I don't get freaked out at 40 mph! Transition 2
Comments: As I said before, I need to learn the flying mount/dismount. At least the dismount, as I really think my transition times are slow. Maybe get a different watch. Moving my Forerunner 305 from the bike to my wrist is kind of a pain and takes a few extra seconds. But I do like seeing the data on the aerobars too... What would you do differently?: just move faster! Run
Comments: Pretty good run, I just focused on a fast cadence off the bike. The first mile was rough and one guy passed me, but overall I felt stronger as the run went on. It was supposed to be 4 miles but was changed the morning of the race. Oh well, I didn't mind! Although that extra mile may helped me snipe into the Top 10. Overall a good run but not quite as fast as I ran two weeks ago at the mini sprint. Ran hard into the finish and passed a friend of mine a few hundred yards before the tape. Here is the run: http://app.strava.com/runs/11539693 What would you do differently?: Not much. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and talked to lots of friends. I was amazed by how many people I knew! I was waiting for wifey to finish so I just enjoyed the post-race festivities, and then cheered for her at T2 and at the finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing but myself. Event comments: I thought this was a very well run race. I can't think of anything to complain about at all! I would do it again in a heartbeat. I had lots of fun. I'm really glad I got to race this together with my wife, we had a great day together. Last updated: 2012-05-20 12:00 AM

Wifey and I woke up at 4, had some breakfast and coffee and tried to get a little flush out before we got in the car for the 45 min drive to Boerne. Didn't quite work that way, but we got there early enough to get our stuff in transition, get our chips and hit the porta potty, all with pretty short lines! By the time we were done with all of that, a lot more folks showed up and the lines were LONG! Go us!
Dwight (TXwildcat) found us in transition and we talked for a bit before the race. Then we went to the boat ramp for a short warmup before the start.
Swam about 200-300 yards before the race. Was told the water was 81 degrees, but it didn't feel quite that warm. It did feel pretty good though!
