Total Time = 1h 01m 23s
Overall Rank = 3/337
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 1/22
Pre-race routine:

Up early just like a work morning. Same time, same routine...but had no food in the house, so had no food, just a lot of liquids. I was already packed and loaded the night before.
Event warmup:

Never as much as I'd like. There is so much junk to do to get ready for the race and so many friends and acquaintances...guess I'm a chatty Kathy at the races. But I did get a full mile of running.
Swim
  • 08m 23s
  • 366 meters
  • 02m 17s / 100 meters
Comments:

The first race in which I think I swam up to my potential.
What would you do differently?:

Work on my technique rounding buoys.
Transition 1
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

This race had 2 run segments so 3 transitions. This first transition was a swim to run transition.

I had the 9th fastest T1 overall.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 30m 39s
  • 12 miles
  • 23.49 mile/hr
Comments:

I worked the bike hard-ish. Not too hard, but harder than I have been so far this year. I have been riding easier this year trying to see if it will boost my run. But I don't think it is. So I want to go back to riding harder like I have in past years.
What would you do differently?:

I had a big goof up that lost me about 10 seconds on the bike, and the 2nd overall bike split. This was at the end of the ride. I was coming down the highway to the left turn in to the parking lot (they had us on the left side of the road, so it was a sharp turn. I was doing about 30mph, and already had my feet on top of my shoes. There is a lip of about 2.5" to get in to the parking lot. All was fine, I was being aggressive and waiting until the last second to scrub my speed...When I applied my brakes aggressively my rear tire went in to a skid and I started to slide out sideways. I had to let off the brakes and straighten out my turn, then reapply the brakes, skidded again, and had to miss the turn, put my feet down, turn the bike around, try to start again...shoes were hitting the ground and wouldn't let me. I tried in vain 3 times, then reached down and removed one of the shoes and held it in my hand until I hit the dismount line and did my T3.
Transition 2
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

I had the 7th fastest T2 overall. This was a run to bike transition.

I had a :39 second T3. This was 20th overall. I found myself fumbling. Once with my helmet and twice with my race belt.
What would you do differently?:

Must be more smooth slipping on those shoes.
Run
  • 20m 32s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

Since there were 2 runs it's tough to fill out this form. I was first in my AG in the 2nd run and 2nd in my 1st run. But the added times have me first too.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I ran my guts out. Hardest effort in a race to date.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat down in the medical area for a while with a cold bottle of water. At first I couldn't talk or do anything. After a minute I needed to pour some of that water on me. I was seriously spent as much as I could...
After that I walked and looked for friends to cheer for.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing at all. Maybe the 10 second gaffe on the bike?

Event comments:

Great race, close to home, attended by a lot of my friends. Great race.

Course: There were 2 runs. The first run from swim-to-bike was about 1 mile and climbed mostly. So it was slowed by the altitude gain. The 2nd run was about 2 miles and went down for a couple hundred yards just after starting then gradually climbed up a bit. Did a turn around at half way then came back the same route, so that climb was at the end. but not too hilly at all as it goes around here.
