Swim
Comments: Basically I was just trying to finish the swim because I was pretty nervous about it. I primarily used side, back and breast strokes but I did use crawl for about half of the final leg. What would you do differently?: Overall I met my goal (i.e., didn't drown) and just need to train more so I can use the crawl the entire race. Also I might take a bit more aggressive line as I was trying to stay out of the main swim lanes to avoid other people. Transition 1
Comments: I wasn't trying to be particularly quick in the transition; I even chatted with a few people next to me. I wore my running shoes on the bike so I had to tie them. What would you do differently?: Just need to be quicker. Bike
Comments: Pretty happy with my ride considering I was on a heavy, hybrid bike. I believe I was only passed by one person in my AG or above. What would you do differently?: Probably just need better equipment and a bit more training. Transition 2
Comments: A couple of guys in front of me crashed their bikes. Also, wasn't too fast in the transition; posed for a photo with the girls next to me. Rode in my running shoes so didn't have to change shoes. Got a drink on the way out before I started running. Took a little too long getting my shirt with bib on. What would you do differently?: Run with the bike, don't screw around in transition and operate with more urgency. Run
Comments: My heel was really hurting and I tried to stretch it out after about 100 yard. Still I had to stop and walk several times. I was pretty winded as well. I can't believe I ranked second in my AG for the run after all that. If I could get rid of the pain in my heel and train a bit I could have probably come in first on the running leg. What would you do differently?: Need to train more and get my heel fixed. Post race
Warm down: Drank a lot of water and Gatorade. At some kind of cliff bar. Eventually had a little bbq, and finally a beer with Eric, Paul, and the Cy Tri crew. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training, especially in the swim and run. Heel pain. Event comments: Needed to give better pre-race instructions (e.g., which sides were transition entrance and exit). Didn't like the 15 min delay between the Oly and Sprint starts. Otherwise, nice people and beautiful location. Last updated: 2012-07-31 12:00 AM

Awoke at 5AM, got dressed and loaded our gear in the car for the 45 min drive from our lake house to the race site. We had to stop at Wal-Mart on the way to the race because I discovered that my front tire tube had popped overnight. We parked a few blocks from the start and changed the tube. Ate a goo with caffeine after setting up the transition.
Stretched and jumped in the water for a short swim just to get acclimated to the water.
