Swim
Comments: I started in the back of the pack but then I had to keep passing people. It was crowded at first, but I guess that's to be expected. I started drafting off of someone else, which worked well for a while until another swimmer cut across in front of me. I switched between breathing every 2 and 3 strokes. What would you do differently?: Maybe start the swim a little closer or in the middle of the pack. Transition 1
Comments: Well for one I don't jump on the bike or have my shoes on the bike before I'm on it. Running in my bike shoes isn't very pleasant, so perhaps I should try practicing it that way. I had a shot block, some gatorade, and some water. My stomach started hurting. What would you do differently?: Maybe skip the shot block next time. Bike
What would you do differently?: Need more riding experience, esp on hills. A new lighter bike wouldn't hurt either. ;) Transition 2
Comments: Someone else had racked their bike pretty much on top where my spot was, but I just nudged theirs over and put my bike where it had been (I could tell b/c I was using mtn bike adaptor). I was a little annoyed, but it didn't lose me much time. Run
Comments: I had bad heartburn during the run, and my left foot hurt as if I had something stuck in my shoe. Mostly though I felt like I may upchuck or puke because of the acid. However, I was still able to run pretty fast so I don't think it slowed me down very much. What would you do differently?: Bring antacids and leave them in the transition area. Take Prevacid before the race instead of Zantac. Post race
Warm down: Walking around, panting, eating banana, thanking god it was done. What limited your ability to perform faster: My biggest limiter was my bike fitness, particularly on hills. Other than that, I'm a generally slow runner. I've improved a great deal since I did this race 2 years ago, but I can still make a lot of improvement on the run. I felt like my cardiovascular fitness limited me. At the end I just couldn't go any faster. Event comments: I like this race, seems well organized and friendly. Since I've only done this race, I don't have a lot to compare it to. Last updated: 2012-09-02 12:00 AM

Got up at 4:40 but I had been awake since 4 am. Fed the cats, then meditated for 15 minutes. After I changed into my race outfit, I drank a shake I had made last night, consisting of coffee, banana, soy milk, a scoop of choc soy ice cream, protein powder, and peanut butter. Took my vitamin, heartburn pill, allergy pill, and flonase.
Some dynamic stretches for my shoulders and legs. Didn't make it into the water to do a swim warmup.
