Swim
Comments: The swim felt absolutely awesome, even though I dislike open water. I'm really impressed with my performance because I haven't swum in a few weeks (since my pool is closed) and before that I was sick for over a week. I really worked the swim because it felt so good and I didn't really feel tired afterward. Can't complain! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Try to train more consistently, but there wasn't anything I could do about that. Transition 1
Comments: Didn't try too hard. The conditions were terrible and I didn't want to push it too hard the first time out. I kept all my stuff in my bag so I had to go searching a little for the clothes I wanted. What would you do differently?: Well, if it weren't pouring rain I would spread my gear out and attempt to hurry. I really wasn't in a hurry this time. Bike
Comments: I realized after getting passed by everyone that I train way too lightly on the bike. I was definitely working harder than I normally would in a training session - I used much higher gears than usual. What would you do differently?: Make sure I was in better shape to really go after the bike. Transition 2
Comments: Again, didn't try to do this quickly. I actually changed into entirely new clothes and socks for the run because I was soaked through. What would you do differently?: Again, with better conditions, I wouldn't have had to do half of what I did in T2. Run
Comments: Much, much, much better than I ever expected. I did not walk the entire time, which is a huge accomplishment for me. Even when I train I take breaks after each mile or so. I just kept my breathing in line and plugged along. What would you do differently?: Well, I would love to be able to run faster, but this was really perfect for the point I'm at right now. I've also learned that I'm not nearly so bad a runner as I keep claiming. I'm not good yet, but it's far from my weakest leg. Post race
Warm down: Nothing. Walking around getting my stuff together. What limited your ability to perform faster: Well, the tropical storm was definitely inhibiting. Also, my inexperience, and not knowing what was ahead of me. The biggest thing dragging me back was the bike. I now know I've got to train much harder. Event comments: As my first triathlon ever, I really enjoyed this race. It seemed to be well-run, the people were friendly and the volunteers were amazing to stand out in the pouring rain for so long. Last updated: 2006-06-04 12:00 AM

Protected myself from the rain and cold as best I could. Ate a banana and half a Marathon bar. Tried to figure out what was going on.
First tri ever! So I should have been overpreparing . . . but it's hard to warm up in driving rain and wind :P I ran a few sprints right before getting into the water to get my adreneline up.
