Run
Comments: The plan was to come out slow as everyone always states. I came out slow then realized I was coming out a lot slower than I wanted. Picked up the pace a little trying to get back on planned pace. Felt strong at the half way point which I thought was a really good sign. Continued to maintain pace, ran into friend from gym and worked with her to keep each other motivated through our down sections. Around the 16 mile aid stations started to walk through aid stations. Getting running after the walking really hurt the quads. Mentally had to keep pushing through. About the 23 mile mark had a great 1.5 mile run then I hit the wall and couldn't fight the mental thoughts to walk any more, started walk/running the remainder of the race. My running partner managed to keep going. What would you do differently?: Need more long runs in training, but focus was Half Iron race 5 weeks earlier. But suffering through last years race, I was much better prepared and PR'd by 45 minutes. Next year will be even better. Post race
Warm down: Walked around finishing shoot, drank bottle of water, made way back to people mover to get back to car. Drove home, drank some chocolate milk on way home, cleaned up and rested. Dinner out with family. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need additional long runs, on pavement to teach body to absorbe shock to legs. Last updated: 2012-10-18 12:00 AM

Two mini toasted bagels on drive to race. Parked at work garage, used work facilities to avoid porta potties, then took people mover over to race start. Waited within the enclosed people mover exit to avoid the cold wind blowing before the race. Found way to staging area with 10 minutes to wait for start, took 14 minutes for my corral to get to the start. Off we went.
