Run
Comments: I wasn't feeling great going into this race. I've been having lots of stomach issues. E was really sick Thursday and Friday, so I didn't get a ton of sleep. I was stressed out on Friday from taking E to the doctor, trying to finish my costume, and missing my Garmin. I did end up finishing and finding the Garmin, but it was not helping with my stress levels. Friday night before the race, I went to bed around 12:30 and got up at 5 to rock E because she was fussing. Never made it back to sleep. So, given all that, I didn't have very high hopes for this race. I just wanted to survive and not die. Started off a little too fast, but I was excited and feeling pretty good. I got a lot of cheering for Wonder Woman (I was one of 3 in my wave!), so I went in. I noticed a lot of cramping in my right calf and my left thigh. Ended up walking a bit at mile 2, especially through the water stop. My goal was to do walk/run to get through everything and to have fun. My watch had an elapsed pace (I'm still learning the ropes and think I figured out later that it was for a mile not for the whole run). But, it helped motivate me to push a little bit more than I would have otherwise. I had 3 honey stinger chews at mile 2 at the water stop. I loosened up a little bit more around mile 3. Mile 4 had two water stops - one at the turn around and one right before the 4 mile marker - so it was slower. I went to get my chews at the second water stop and realized that I had dropped them at some point, so I had to switch to PowerAde. It's really not my favorite, but I manage. There is an uphill around mile 4 and 5. I tried not to walk at all in the last 1.2 miles - ended up just walking one minute so that was pretty good. I did get a lot of great feedback on my costume. Kids were super excited! That made it a ton of fun for me - even more than normal for Monument. What would you do differently?: Given what I was working with, I think this was a fantastic run! I'm not sure I would do anything differently. This ended up being a PR by 1:33. Post race
Warm down: Picked up some food from the tent and walked back to the car. Really crowded at the end and at the park, and I wasn't up for hanging out. Last updated: 2013-01-08 12:00 AM

Wake up, showered, realized I took Imitrex instead of Synthroid (in my defense, they are in the same bottle, the same shape, and the same color). Imitrex is migraine medicine with side effects: drowsiness, dizziness...well this could be interesting.
After getting dressed, I made coffee and packed up all of my stuff. Drove down to the race site, made it to parking easily, and walked over to the race site.
Met up with Judi at the costume contest tent. We took some pictures and then walked over to the starting line. We walked past the kids' run start. They are SO cute! We saw a small four-year-old girl walking with her dad. He was giving her strategy - "don't go out too fast for the first quarter mile!" while she's just trotting along smiling. It was adorable. She clearly has no idea how long that even is!
Made it over to the starting area, went to the porta potty, walked around and killed time waiting for the race to start. My wave didn't start until 50 minutes after the start of the race. Some day, I'd like to start before the pros finish. To porta potty lines were getting really long, so I decided to hop in line to go again; worked out well. By the time I made it through, I was able to hop in my wave and start the race.
