Pre-race routine:

Racked the bike and set up transition early...then The Team wound up at our place drinking coffee, stretching and smelling up the bathroom. We all returned back to the race site an hour later. Hanging at the house was much easier than staying at the race site...course it only worked out because we live so close.
Event warmup:

Stretched, did a few laps in the dive tank to get the muscles/lungs pumping.
Swim
  • 13m 28s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

Serpentine pool swim...I love this style of swimming. It kind of simulates open water because bodies are crammed in each lane. It's long course so you only have to flip turn a few times and if some one passes you it's easy to catch their slipstream.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know...I always think my swim times are going to get faster in this series, and they do, but I believe I swim a faster 800 in training because I know I don't have to run out of the pool, ride my bike and then run.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition times are not maintained for this race. My swim to bike transition was good, I wasted a few seconds fuckin' with my helmet strap...that was weird.
Bike
  • 32m 33s
  • 12 miles
  • 22.12 mile/hr
Comments:

This is a fast bike course. Slight uphill grade that wouldn't be considered uphill by cyclist, but some triathletes just get clobbered on this portion of the ride. The other half of the course is slightly downhill on freshly paved roads...again, very fast in the tucked position. Got passed by a few dudes on their second lap, then trounced them on their third lap. Whenever I felt tired I'd drink or eat...felt strong throughout.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get some more miles in the aero position.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Again, our transitions are rolled into each leg, so my bike was probably a good minute or minute and a half faster than the posted time.
What would you do differently?:

In the past I've had quick laces on my running shoes, but I've been lazy lately and have not put them on my current shoes. You don't realize how long it takes to tie your shoes until you're in the middle of a race. So, quick laces for the next race.
Run
  • 20m 46s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt awesome on the run. My interval training has been good work for picking up speed on the course. Passed a ton of people and felt strong at the end.
What would you do differently?:

Again, quick laces on the shoes would save more time.
Post race
Warm down:

Bar-b-que with the team at Chris and Elaines. Booze, meat, pool, kids and fun. Took a two hour nap in the late evening.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to join Masters swimming if I plan to get serious about improving my times. I know I can make up a ton of time in the saddle and my running is strong, but those two or three minutes I could make up in the pool would put me over the top mentally.
