  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Transition 1
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

Smooth...straight into the shoes and helmet. No shirt.
Bike
  • 1h 05m 5s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 22.91 mile/hr
Comments:

Fast course...four laps around the lake. I really like Tempe, such a forward thinking town. First lap I was getting passed by some of the big boys, the last two laps I got into the mix with some older age groupers, the road was full of cyclists when I pulled into transition. Felt strong on the last lap.
What would you do differently?:

Gotta get some aerobars.
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

Opted to go without socks and wound up with six blisters.
Run
  • 47m 57s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt longer than 10k but that was probably because the heat index was on the rise. Temp was probably 92 degrees when I crossed the finish line. Lots of water available on the course, volunteers were great. I loved the ice cold sponges.
What would you do differently?:

Different shirt, I didn't plan on wearing anything but my tri short, but after getting cooked on the bike I opted to wear my Team Moon-e team shirt and it's cotton. Felt heavier than most of my dri-fit training gear, but it was better than contracting one of those nasty Arizona sunburns.
Post race
Warm down:

Beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not much.

Event comments:

This race was great, it's in the same location as the Arizona Ironman, which I will never have enough stupidity to attempt...Olympic distance really is good for me.

The water wasn't as bad as expected. Weird start though, you had to GET into the water and tread for five minutes...it looked miserable but helped warm me up...my swimming is so much faster in a pool. Open water swimming is just a warm up for the heavy lifting...bike and run.
