Swim
Comments: I was in the second wave which was 3 minutes after the first. There was a lot of bumping going on to the first turn. I held my own and did fine. It was sooth sailing for another 100 or so until I started passing lots of people from the first wave. It got worse as I proceeded. The last 100 was terrible. Guys were all over the place. It really stunk trying to navigate around those "floaters". What would you do differently?: Not much I could have done any differently. Transition 1
Comments: I need to practice my transitions and flying mount. What would you do differently?: Practice Bike
Comments: The bike speed could have been a little faster, but I'm happy with the time. What would you do differently?: Get a tri bike. Transition 2
Comments: I still have room for improvement, but I can't complain. What would you do differently?: Practice Run
Comments: I was a little gun shy since I've been recovering from a torn calf muscle. I took it easy on the first portion of the course. I did not want to reinjure my calf. Once I reached the turn around point I knew my calf was good. I increased my speed and caught up to a number of other runners. The last hill starting at the dam was a little challenging, however since I've been working on increasing my running cadence, this was not much of a problem. Running towards the finish line I could have caught a number of other runners, however they weren't in my age group so I held back. The run felt great. I couldn't be happier. What would you do differently?: None Post race
Warm down: I did some stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not knowing how my calf muscle would preform on the run. Not having a triathlon bike slowed me down some. Event comments: For a smaller event, this is really a nice race. The volunteers were great and the event was well organized. My only gripe is that the wave starts were too close together and based on age, not ability. I ran into way too many people in the water that really didn't know how to swim well. However, I definitely plan on doing this race in the future. Last updated: 2013-01-29 12:00 AM

Since the parking is almost half a mile from the transition area, I did a lot of walking. To make matters worse I forgot my watch back at the car. I did manage to jog a little and swim a few hundred yards before the start.
