Run
Comments: lined up with 3:45 pace group. Stayed with them first mile, then felt a little slow so I went a head of them, avg HR was below 150 first five miles, went 8:41, 8:20, 8:29, 8:32, 8:15, then wanted to find portajohn at mile 6 there was a line so I decided to wait, felt good next 5 miles including holy hill, 8:07, 8:12, 8:28 (hill), 8:51 (portapotty), 8:17, maybe too fast here, then Half Marathon split off, still felt good 8:20, 8:20, 8:22, 8:15, then 8:37, started to feel it in my legs about 15 or so, 16-20 got tougher: 8:38, 8:38, 8:29, 8:45, 8:39, started walking all of the water stations, ended up taking 6-8 gels in total, legs started to really hurt about 21 or so, last 5: 8:39, 8:36, 8:44, 9:06, 8:59, 9:10, was really walking the water stations at this point, discomfort in left achilles and both quads, sucked it up and finished with 8:44 and 8:14 What would you do differently?: not much, maybe a little quick in miles 6-15, 3:45 pace group passed me during mile 24 after I ran basically the whole race ahead of them, hill training helped during the hills, pain in the last 3 miles is difficult to simulate during training Post race
Warm down: walked, ART in VIP tent (just OK), hobbled to car, hobbled around the rest of the day What limited your ability to perform faster: last 4-5 miles painful Event comments: could have used a couple more drink stations toward the beginning and porta potties on the course during the beginning, overall, beat last year's time on a tougher course so good race, extra special since wife and son completed the half Last updated: 2013-02-02 12:00 AM
