Pre-race routine:

had the usual breakfast before driving down. The dinner I had last night was poor thinking; dorritos and too much wine left me not wanting to get moving. drove down and met some nice Bikeway racers on the way into the park.
Event warmup:

about 2 miles jogging with about 6 short pickups. Tried to stay warm. is was low 30's so I figured I'd be cold enough on the bike..
Run
  • 15m 10s
  • 2.3 miles
  • 06m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

took a little while to navigate the folks who should not have started at the front. it wasnt a marathon-sized crowd, but something like 650 on a narrow run course. I felt like I put out a good effort, but it had me questioning my NJ marathon goal time (doesn't everything?) but I stopped beating myself up when I remembered that yesterday's training was an 18 miler at a decent pace.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Pretty solid pace with the hills.

Comments:

I botched this T1 some, but that's what early season races are for :-). I spent a good 30 seconds trying to clasp. the bike helmet with my gloves on before I filnally just took them off. Other than that clothing choices were pretty good. ran with bike jacket, sunglasses and a windbreaker scull cap, so this should have been pretty simple - shoes, helmet, go.
What would you do differently?:

take off the gloves at the end of the run.

Comments:

I rode the new road bike telling myself that the couple of downhill turns were technical. that turned out not to be true enough, but I wanted to play with the new toy and I didn't trust my uphill riding with the 11-23 cassette currently on the tri-bike race wheels. I coulda just changed the cassette out but I was glad to have the brakes handy as the park was open to all the usual Sunday traffic.

My only real issue was not having the umph to really push it on the bike. but I had some fun trading places back and forth with 2 guys on the second loop. They both beat me but I caught them on the run :-)

What would you do differently?:

You know, ride more, more faster. Next week starts group riding with the fast folk at bikeway.
Transition 2

Comments:

Nothing to speak of.
Run

Comments:

Good run and I gave it what I had left. about :20/mile slower than round one, but a solid run for me. I finished with the lungs screaming.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not biking forthe last 2 months. but im sure thats true for a lot of folks that showed up. I'm looking forward to doing this course again in October.
