Pre-race routine:

On our drive from Beaumont,Ca to La Quiinta,Ca we passed by windmills close to the race site Uh OH this does not look good.

Anyway Ate two protein bars and a bottle skratch, my brother the runner just ate cereal and water.
Event warmup:

Just Chill out me and my brother watched and cheered our brother in law warming up for the swim at the shore. He just walked along the shore acclimating to the cold.
Swim
  • 1h 24m 38s
  • 4224 yards
  • 02m / 100 yards
Comments:

Water tempt is not accurate. IT seems to be very cold out there it was in the 50s after swimmers are coming out cold and numb even with wetsuits. My brother in law did well ,but its a 4 loop tear drop shape and have to come out of the water and back again 3X lost some time coming out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

My brother in law wore sleevless wetsuit in a cold swim , he would have been more comfortable with a full sleeve wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 01m 59s
Comments:

i should have been ready with my bike out of the rack. I should have just let me brother strap the timing chip. I only noticed from the pictures my tool bag almost came off.
What would you do differently?:

be ready with my bike next time and check my tool bag.
Bike
  • 7h 11m 14s
  • 112 miles
  • 15.58 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike course is flat with 3 loops. The bike segment would have been fine if not for the strong winds that stopped me at less than 10 mph for atleast 4 miles and directions are poor i got lost for 4 miles. The water stations would have been fine every 20miles but gave me accidentally heed instead of water and its my only bottle tastes like edible gasoline.

My headunit ran out of batteries on the 97th mile. I was biking blind on the last 15 miles. On the lat few miles i am having a hard time maintaining aero since my tummy is aching . If i am running after this i want to be off the saddle and on the road.
What would you do differently?:

follow the directions by heart and dont turn on my bike head unit until its race time to save batteries. I have to study my nutrition well i peed 3 times along the course.

I just would like to have a feel of how it is on IM racing. I still feel i can run which is good and i would have run if it were'nt for the cold.
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

I wish if i am doing the full on my own this is my ideal T2 time.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 4h 47m 13s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 10m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

The run course was getting dark and colder in 50s when my brother ran. IT was a lonely run with only less than 50 people spread all over the course and dark. My brother could not tell if its an aid station or a bystander.Lighting was very poor,If a runner dropped along the course he would not have been found unless by another runner .The first 13 miles was ok finishing only a little bit over two hours, the last 13 is the problem where fatigue kicked in too early for my brother . My brother in law ran with him the last 13 miles if it were'nt for my Brother in law my brother would have walked the rest of the way.
What would you do differently?:

My brother told me he should have ate a hefty breakfast and just cereal and power bar at lunch, nutrition took its toll. My brother is not used to IM marathons commonly finishing without sunlight.
Post race
Warm down:

We are all rested eventually and head out and ate pasta at a restaurant over all it is very fun for us and its our first time for a triathlon relay. Me and my brother are planning for the next one. We had fun!!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

swim-nothing
bike-more practice on the saddle.
run-nutrition planning

Event comments:

I just would like to say accuracy on the water tempt would have been helpful, more lighting on the running course,SAG van would have been nice along the course. If you ask me if i would do the course again, yes i will even on my own.
