Swim
Comments: Pretty choppy with the winds picking up. I had a few moments where I thought it was pretty rough, but really about the same as New Orleans a few weeks ago. Sighting was poor and went pretty wide on the outbound buoys, was 25 yards or so to the left. Sighted good to the turn around, but must have swung wide again, because the buoys were still 15 yards away. Still improved 2 minutes from last year, but could feel that it was taking a lot out of me fighting the waves. . What would you do differently?: Nothing, it seemed easy and I could have easily done twice the distance, but was getting fatigued in my arms about 700 yards in. John did really well on the swim and is crediting it mostly to CROSS-FIT because he is only doing about 1000y every few weeks. Transition 1
Comments: OMG, what a cluster frack that was. Got up the hill ok, half jogged/walked. Dropped the goggles and a nice lady picked them up for me. That was really nice. Shoes clipped to the bike and off I go, except I cannot get my foot in my shoes. Struggle, struggle, and then DOWN. Tried to put my left foot in, and a few more wobbles, and DOWN again, way harder this time. A volunteer asked if I needed help, and I almost asked for training-wheels. So, a good 1:12 waste of time and bloody right hand and elbow. What would you do differently?: I can do the show thing, but need to PRACTICE a few times before hand No more for this year, shoes go on in T1. Bike
Comments: Add 1:12 for falling over twice and then I felt sorry for myself because my right hand was numb and my elbow hurt on the bars. Geez, i think it was a 4 minute mile 1. Probably would have been around 21.5 without the incidents. Was very strong at times, but the hills were still there. Battled the same 3 folks from mile 4-16.\\ Just a 42 seconds better than last year, very disappointing. What would you do differently?: Clip in before falling over TWICE. My feels were hurt as much as my hands/arms. Transition 2
Comments: Not bad. Weird setup of this race was that the Bike IN/OUT are at the same spot and the closer you are to Bike OUT give you an advantage, so it was a short run to rack the bike. Run
Comments: Seriously? i have to find out what is wrong with my run. My theory is I'm not running enough. Was toast the first 250 yards, and knew this was going to be hard. Questioned myself many times.. Was doing 8.30's right at the 1 mile marker, but walked the water stops, much slower than NOLA a few weeks back. 2 minutes slower than last year, when I had zero miles leading up to the race. I lit too many matches on the bike trying to make up for the bad transition. What would you do differently?: Figure this run thing out. My bike is not as bad as it appeared other than the fact that I need better luck/practice getting ON the BIKE> Post race
Warm down: KIm was right there cheering me on, as was a lot of MTM teammates, which was great. Mingled with many team members and ate some pizza and beer (yes it was 10:30 am). We even signed up a new member at the race, awesome. www.midtnmultisport.com What limited your ability to perform faster: Falling off the bike twice and overall lack of speed work at this point. And I am going to farther get away from speed now that IM training is really about to begin. Event comments: 31 or 32 year of this race. It will be a yearly thing, even though it is very tough and competitive. Last updated: 2013-06-02 12:00 AM

Rode down with John and Tracy. Ate half of a BEC biscuit from Hardee's and a few sips of coke. Half cup of coffee at 5:45am. Mexican food the night before was not a good idea.
Swam to the first bouy and back and checked out the wetsuit. The lake was pretty choppy.
