Swim
Comments: My slowest segment, but felt good, not too cold. Transition 1
Comments: Since it was raining, I spent a bit more time getting a 2nd jersey and arm covers on, as well as my bike socks and gloves. What would you do differently?: Obviously was planning on being a lot faster but weather is weather. Bike
Comments: Enough has been said about the bike. It was freezing coastal wind which caused many to drop out for hypothermia. I was shivering so bad I couldn't keep the bike from shaking. My wheel cover actually partially came lose and had water inside. I spent 18 minutes of my bike split NOT MOVING. Either warming up at the ski jump building, or peeing because I was so cold there was no sweat yet I had to drink. Was not going to piss myself for a 6+ hr bike split so ducked off the road 2 times as well as an potty stop (again to warm up as well). The last 2.5 hrs or so were actually really hot so the people who wore jackets paid somewhat. If the rain/wind hadn't calmed down a bit by the time I got back to Whistler after the first 2 hrs I was going to drop out like Symonds. It really was that awful. What would you do differently?: Not freeze. Transition 2
Comments: All my clothes were completely soaked so I opted for a full change, and made sure my frozen feet were bone dry before putting on new socks and shoes. Also loaded up on the sunblock because the sun was out and beating down. AND of course 1 more bathroom break (!!) What would you do differently?: I was miffed about the bike so wasn't killing myself for time. Run
Comments: Run is my strong suit and I figured since the bike was so lousy I'd have some extra power. Was shooting for a 3:40. So I ran the first 21.1 as a solid 1:50 half and felt fine. 2nd half, had some walk breaks and was pretty grumpy. Just flat. Plus since the original goals were all shot I didn't really have a time goal to shoot for. Walked with another dude for a bit then got my groove back and ran the last 8km in decent pace. Also started getting cold and raining again so there was that. What would you do differently?: Not sure. I should be able to do a 3:30 segment but have not had an "easy" bike yet. Post race
Event comments: It's an Ironman so it's going to be hard. The bike is monstrous even without obscenely hot or cold weather. The run is fine, assuming you're not slagged. The location and everything that goes along with the race is top notch. I will try again one day. Last updated: 2014-08-14 12:00 AM

Got out to Whistler on Thurs evening - did a short 10k bike and relaxed on Friday.
Saturday was raining and windy so we did a short test bike ride to make sure clothing was enough and wouldn't need an actual jacket/shell. It was unpleasant but doable.
Wore bike kit under wetsuit since I figured it was raining and I'd be soaked within minutes anyway.
