Swim
Comments: Didn't expect much from the swim since I lost alota swim fitness due to recent bike crash and being sick. I tried to draft off the BOPers but that didn't work because my chest started hurting and I couldn't catch my breath. Slowing my stroke didn't help much either and backstroke was out of the question at that moment so I decided to wade a bit. I noticed about 3 other swimmers having problems too, hehe. I nearly called my race off but said NO! After I regaining composure I started swimming again and kept my pace very aerobic. I think I was idle for about 3-4 minutes??? Anyway, I caught some swimmers but by the time I got about 3/4s through, the 2nd wave yellow caps came which was kinda nice because they bumped me a bit and I drafted off of them as best I could, hehe! What would you do differently?: Start off ALOT easier if I'm not feeling well. A consistent slow steady stroke that allowed me to keep moving would have been way better than trying to stay behind drafting off the BOP swimmers. Transition 1
Comments: Felt a bit dizzy coming out of the swim so I started to walk as I unsuited. Bike
Comments: It got really smoky out there so I kept pace aerobic to high aerobic. Only breathed hard on some of the ascents. My eyes were burning and my chest hurt. >.< Despite feeling like crap, I still enjoyed biking the course. :) I just planned on having an NP output of at least +20 over my recent long bike ride NP stats and I accomplished that. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: Changed without hurrying too much. I had to cough and spit out my phlegm a couple times. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I thought I could hold my needing to pee til the end of the race but I couldn't so I stepped off the course to take a piss. =P I did that somewhere within the first mile. I aimed to negative split the run as best as possible and I achieved that, yay! Went aerobic the first few miles to see how I can handle the run in my state. Once I got into a rhythm I was able to finish strong. :D What would you do differently?: Nothing, I think I paced myself wisely. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and chatted with other finishers. Ate some recovery food. Walked to beach to see if my flip flops were still there and they were, hehehe. What limited your ability to perform faster: Being sick and the damn smoke all over the place. Event comments: Only thing I didn't like was the smoke. Couldn't tell if there was a fire nearby or the locals having early BBQs. Last updated: 2015-01-27 12:00 AM

Got up early enough to eat a peanut butter and honey toastie. Final check for triathlon bag stuff. Put on running shoes at left in time to make it to packet pickup at 6:30am. Mentally told myself 2:30ish finish time is realistic since I've been training for endurance and durability lately and was also still feeling sick (chest congestion and lotsa phlegm when coughing). >.<
Didn't do too much, carefully put on wetsuit and made sure transition area was set. Forgot my banana and toastie in the car, damn, hehe.
