Swim
Comments: Took a bit of time to find my rhythm, but found a good set of feet to follow in the first few minutes and managed to hold them the whole way, which is by far my best drafting to date. Helped that he was swimming my pace, especially the couple times I veered off and had to bridge back up to him. Nearly missed the exit dock. In general, didn't do nearly enough course recon before hand. Transition 1
Comments: Long run from the pier to T1, breathing hard, felt like my HR was through the roof. Transition was great. Bike
Comments: Leap frogged with Evan, who ended up finishing second for the first third or so, and I think he sat on my wheel the rest of the way... He said something after the race about being glad there weren't any marshalls on the course. HR was low to mid 160s from early to late; I wonder if I could've pushed a little harder... felt aerobically limited on the run, and I doubt pushing the bike a bit more would've hurt that. Saddle (newer Adamo) is definitely not working, and I don't think my position is optimized either. Need to make something work for the rest of this year. Made a wrong turn coming into T2 -- there were lots of places where I yelled "which way do I go"... it's my own fault for not knowing which way to go in the parking lot to T2, but the course needed better traffic control (couple scary car intersections and a couple unclear turns). But, it was a value race at $90. Wrong turn probably cost me 10-15 seconds. Transition 2
Comments: Super quick, no problems. Should've put on socks though... Run
What would you do differently?: Felt tough immediately and that never let up. I guess that's how it's supposed to feel... you're just hanging on at this point. Evan passed me a mile in, we chatted briefly, and I knew unless he really faltered, he was gone. Pretty run through the delta; quiet though, and the washboard and gravel made the unpleasantness that much worse. At about mile 4, I noticed a rubbing on my left arch... the tongue-elastic-strap thing. By mile 5 it hurt, and by mile 6 I was really glad I was going to be out of those shoes soon. Might experiment with different shoes (these were the Torins), but for the IM, just wear socks. Post race
Warm down: walked around and ate everything i could get my hands on. What limited your ability to perform faster: five too many pounds? maybe some fatigue from base 1. Last updated: 2015-04-22 12:00 AM

Beets! Dad was in town, so a bit off my rhythm, but to bed early and up at 5 for breakfast.
Too short. Didn't have time to thoroughly learn the ins and outs of transition or warmup. Got in 5 minute jog and 2 minute swim.
