Run
Comments: Truth: I only signed up for the 5K so I could get the cereal bowl that the 5K runners could claim by showing their bib at the Corelle store. That being said, I kept the pace pretty easy and just enjoyed the morning and being out with like-minded people. I took in the sights of the river, the bridges, the leaves that were in the early stages of changing, showing patches of oranges, reds and yellows on the hillsides. It was fun watching the myriad racers: the speedsters (and some fast kids, too!), the average Joes, the first-timers, the friends, the families, the ones to whom a 5K at any pace is not an easy nor trivial feat. There were 3 kids who were running 'with' their parents, as in ahead of them. They'd run, then walk or dawdle around. Then one would look back and say, "Here they come!" and they'd take off sprinting. Rinse, repeat. It was so funny, especially when they stopped to investigate a flattened roadkill squirrel. They were totally fascinated by it, then..."Ooooh, gross, it's a squirrel!" and they took off sprinting again. I couldn't help but laugh. I said to a lady near me, "Who knew flattened squirrels were so interesting?!" And another guy nearby said, "Those kids just ran over that squirrel, I saw them!" Funny! We all laughed. The best part of the race was running back over the bridge near the finish - an immature bald eagle was soaring fairly low and close to the river. It was so awesome to see and enjoy this beautiful creature for a minute or so as he flew slow, long paths back and forth over the water. Then a small hawk flew by, too. So very cool. What would you do differently?: Nothing considering my goal of just finishing. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a water then headed back up through the course to watch for Cuda. Once she finished, we got some bagel pieces and headed back to the hotel for showers. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not applicable. Event comments: Very organized race, I'd definitely do it again! Last updated: 2015-12-08 12:00 AM

Ate a Pop Tart for breakfast and had some iced tea. With an 8:30 am start and a ~5 minute drive we thankfully didn't have to get up stupid early.
Used the facilities in the high school, then walked to the start line where I did some stretching and loosening up. Got some pre-race pics with Cuda. They had someone sing the National Anthem then we were off!
