Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:30, ate a banana, glass of water, four fig newtons..checked my gear, filed camelback with 2 bottles blue poweraid, two bottles water - checked bike tires, put bike in car, drove to fiancee's home, ate another banana on the way - loaded up bikes and on the way. Got there 45min early, checked in, set up bike and gear, talked to other friends and athletes.
Event warmup:

No real warmup - stretching mostly with arms
Swim
  • 28m 56s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

Best part of the day.. swim went swimmingly
What would you do differently?:

Could have pushed a little harder maybe?
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

A little trouble getting the shirt on - might try a full body suit? Otherwise, was a little slow, but was trying to relax and get onto bike in good mental state.. went alright
What would you do differently?:

Experiment with getting tri jersey on.. got stuck a little
Bike
  • 1h 35m 54s
  • 40 kms
  • 25.03 km/hr
Comments:

Good bike - quite relaxed, wanted to keep something for my run. Ran out of water on the way back - but camelback leaked in my bag on drive out.. so, probably was just about right.

Could have pushed harder on the hills, particularly with the big hill coming back giving me some rest ability.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Tired legs, but got in and out quite well.. total jello legs at start of run though
What would you do differently?:

Not too much, went fairly well
Run
  • 1h 09m 49s
  • 10 kms
  • 06m 59s  min/km
Comments:

Man, survival mode.. started out really rough, legs rubbery, no "go".. but with the 4min run/1min walk, got legs back as run went on - second half was quicker thant the first
What would you do differently?:

Train, train, train
Post race
Warm down:

Walking, drinking water, water on head to cool down..

What limited your ability to perform faster:

too much weight, not enough training

Event comments:

Good race - not much keeping people together at the end, but with a staggered start, would probably be tough. A really good first oly event though - low key, not too many people, all in all a very good experience
