Pre-race routine:

Got up early and drove to race sight. Met up with teammates.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 27m 20s
  • 820 yards
  • 03m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

Slow and steady.
Transition 1
  • 03m 41s
Comments:

My feet were covered in dirt and grass, so I poured bottled water on them and elected to wear socks.
Bike
  • 50m 50s
  • 14 miles
  • 16.52 mile/hr
Comments:

Could not unclip at the bike finish and had an embarrassing tipover. This added time to my bike split. I think I averaged 17.5 up until my fall.
What would you do differently?:

Adjust my clips!
Transition 2
  • 02m 36s
Comments:

My T2 was slow because I was discombobulated from the fall and was trying to access if I had any injuries. I was bruised, but felt I could still run.
Run
  • 33m 11s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

Slow and steady. I saw a woman in front of me wearing a tutu with a 50 on her calf. At first I didn't take her seriously and figured I would be able to overtake her eventually. Then I heard someone comment that she had raced the Half the day before. Then I knew she was not going to tire or slow down. In fact, I was the one to tire and slow down. Turned out, I would have been 1st place in my age group had I been able to pass her.
Post race
Warm down:

I was a bit bumped and bruised from my bike spill and hungry, but didn't want post-race fare. Pete totally rocked the race, so we hung around to check his results. When we saw that he did not place, we changed clothes and left for lunch. As we were driving along, I looked at Facebook and saw that my teammate Shelly had accepted and award on my behalf. 2nd place AG! I was TOTALLY shocked. We were so busy looking at Pete's finish, that we didn't look that closely at mine. Just goes to show that anything is possible!

Event comments:

White Lake has always been an awesome race site! I have done this race a few times in the past. Since it was my first Half Iron distance, it will always have a special place in my heart. The lake is beautiful and it is well organized. There was plenty of post race snacks and food, including pizza. Hope to do it again!
