Swim
Comments: Swam well at the start but lost the lead pack so I decided to keep my pace aerobic as to not panic losing them and minimal time. Some MOP swimmers were not swimming close to the buoys and pushed me to the outside. I was having a hard time sighting the buoys without having my prescription glasses and sighting the swimmers did not help me make a good course correction where I had to. I drafted off some of the 2nd wave swimmers after the turnaround, hehe. Left foot started cramping last third of the distance and had to dorsiflex quite a bit to make it go away. I swam about 140 meters more than I needed to (about 2:30 extra swim time?). What would you do differently?: Try contacts for better sighting. Transition 1
Comments: Ran out of the water fast and unsuited well but the transition area was rough forcing me to walk due to my soft feet, hehe! Took off wetsuit as quickly as possible but got stuck on heels a bit. Put watch on homemade mount between aero bars. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Paced the 3 laps wisely. Started out comfortably hard with the early hills and did my best to build effort as each lap progressed. Burned matches at the right time as to not punish my legs for a good run. Ate a Tropical Punch Clif Shot Blok beginning of the 2nd and 3rd lap so the caffeine would keep me alert. I thought I could pace the bike segment at close to 18mph but I need more fitness for that, grrrr. I had to pee halfway through the 2nd lap though. >.< 11% Z3, 61% Z4, and 23% Z5. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: Racked bike quickly and changed shoes. Did not change socks. Put on visor and hydration belt. Moved watch to left wrist. What would you do differently?: Hurry my ass up after deciding not to switch socks. Run
Comments: Lost about 1-2 minutes waiting for portapotty at the start. I was so relieved from peeing that I lost my orientation and forgot where to start running. Volunteers helped me with that. Paced myself in low Z4 to mile 1, then to mile 4.5 high Z4 where I pulled my trigger and went hard. I tried to hold the pace to the finish but ran out of gas to push harder the last half mile but did my best to finish strong and I did. Started with a shot blok at the start and had one every 20 minutes. Drank Infinit 10 minutes in between. 33% Z4 and 46% Z5. What would you do differently?: Pull trigger later. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and stretched. Took some pictures with friends. Drank Endurox R4 and ate a small banana. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hills. I could have pushed harder up those during the bike segment but did not wanna burn those matches and have a horrible run. Event comments: Good course but would like the bike course to be smoother. Might sign up again as a VOGO. :) Last updated: 2017-01-23 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:30am and packed car. Prepacked all gear night before. Made toastie with peanut butter and honey. Drank orange juice and ate banana. Ate apple sauce on the way to race site. Left at 6:10am due to not sure I had to poop or not. Did not feel it so left. Got to race site and picked up packet before unloading bike and gear.
Got to transition with all my gear at 6:50am and saw Phil and a bunch of Caltri folks racked up and ready. Set up my gear and and went to take a dump. I didn't see my other friend Gavin and msg'd him waiting for the bathroom stall to clear. Whoever was in there took 10 minutes to take a dump, sheesh!
Gavin msg'd me back saying he just woke up, silly joker! hehehe
Return to transition and suited up, did dynamic movements warmup while walking to swim start. Water was warm so didn't jump in the water to swim. Just jumped in to get some water into wetsuit.
