Swim
Comments: Started in the mass about 5 meters behind the start line. It was hard but I managed to get some rhythm and draft a bit. Only had a couple of punches along the way. What would you do differently?: Nothing, it was a ;difficult swim which many people couldnt manage and i knew it wouldnt be fast. Transition 1
Comments: I was ready with instructions and the volunteers were very good. I struggled with getting my gloves on as they were too tight and the arm warmers were hard to get on to wet arms. What would you do differently?: might not bother with arm warmers. Think about finding a tri top that is tight fitting and has arms. Bike
Comments: Wind played a big part. I relaxed because I knew I wasn't going to be fast and jut told myself to look after my legs. The first lap return leg was horrible in the headwind but the second time round I coped better because I was ready for it. I was drinking 4x per hour and eating 2x per hr. The special needs coffee stop really gave me a boost. What would you do differently?: Nutrition - I need to get more scientific about this. Transition 2
Comments: Good change over and made ure I had sunscreen coverage. Banana and toilet stop. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I tried to start slowly and save the legs. I was eating and drinking at almost every aid stations and taking ice. Had to stop twice at toilets but that's normal for me. Strangely I had lots of energy at the end and picked up the pace for the last few kms. At the finish line they wieghed me and I hadn't lost anything (last year was 2kg lost). What would you do differently?: Nutrition - again have a closer look at this. Post race
Warm down: Shower, stretch and eat. Champagne and beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: My preparation was affected by normal health issues and I was found to be iron deficient the week before the race so I just wanted to finish in good shape. The weather conditions were also a big factor for everyone. Many people DNF'd in this race. I was really pleased with myself for sticking at it and completing the course. Event comments: In summary, the weather played a big part today. The swim and bike were more challenging than usual due to the wind so I think everyone who finished can be very proud. My favorite part of this course is the run because there are lots of supporters along the roadside for the duration giving lots of cheers and noise. This race also has the best volunteers and everyone in the town is interested and excited to talk to the athletes. I would recommend to anyone. Last updated: 2017-03-02 12:00 AM
