Pre-race routine:

Went in to the city on Saturday afternoon and picked up our bibs from "the expo". I use that term very loosely as really it was packet pick up and that was it.

New race organisers this year and it wasn't as well executed as it has been in the past and race numbers were waaaay down.

Anyway did pick up and then went with the turtles to the running store for E to get new shoes and K to stock up on gels. Then Mum, E and I went back to their hotel for the night.

E did the marathon so she started at 6am so she was up and about at around 5. Once she had left mum and I were wide awake so we got up and faffed about until around 6:30 when we left.
I had to assemble for my 7:30 start at 7 although there wasn't many people there so it really didn't need to be that early. But anyway got there at about 7 and used the loo and waited. It was nice, not too cold but the wind had picked up and it was whistling straight through the high rises. I found a spot to sit behind a get brick puller so I managed to keep out of the wind.
Event warmup:

None.

Comments:

I had absolutely no expectations going into this event other than that it was going to be a complete and utter sufferfest due to my lack of training. All my own fault so suck it up princess and get on with it.

Started out with a plan to do 3/1 run/walk for as long as I could maintain it and then go from there.

Took the first 5k easy and was still feeling unexpectedly good. Had a gu at the 5k mark. The 3/1 was working well but I walked more up the hills as they came and managed to still be feeling great at the 15k mark.

The hill at the 15k mark took a bit out of me and so I started doing more like a 2/2 and managed with that until the 18k mark and the big shitty hills. I had to walk from 18-20k but I managed to run most of the last k.
What would you do differently?:

Warm down:

Had to walk down a hill to get my medal then back up to see E cross the line then back down the hill to catch the bus back to the city. Once in the city we walked to get lunch and after we had eaten we walked to the hotel and showered. Then we walked back into town and back to the hotel to catch a taxi to the airport.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being a lazy arse and not getting out of bed in the morning to run.

Event comments:

Normally this race has great atmosphere, numbers and is really well organised. With the change of organisers this year all of those things were not as good as they have been in previous years.
