Pre-race routine:

I got up at 6am to get ready for the race. I had to be there early since I had not yet picked up my packet. The race organizers sent several messages about parking and packet pickup and I decided to listen to them.

I walked Zoe, had breakfast (1/2 a bagel with PB and a banana) and I grabbed a cold brew coffee to have on the way to the race site. I left the house at 6:45 and arrived in plenty of time. Packet pickup started at 7:00 and the race did not start until 8:30. By 7:25, I had parked, picked up my packet, and returned to my car. It was only 38 degrees out and it was damp so I sat in my car until it was time to go and do a warm up.


Event warmup:

A little be fore 8:00 I decided that I headed to the port-o-pots (the coffee had done it's job) and then did a one mile warm up run and figured out where they wanted us to line up.

Comments:

During the warm up, I went down a steep section and up the same hill. Those hills were the start and end of the race. Yikes! As a result of the terrain, the first mile was very fast. I held it steady, although not quite so fast for miles two and three, achieved a very high heart rate going up the steep part, and sprinted for the finish.
Post race
Warm down:

Chocolate milk and a banana at the end. No hot mini doughnuts today but all racers received a coupon for a free dozen. I don't think that their little doughnut machine could handle all of the racers and family members getting their doughnuts all at once!

Event comments:

Fun event hosted by my favorite coffee house -- Sola Coffee Cafe in Raleigh.

The owner's wife was recently diagnosed with ALS. Although this was the sixth year of the event, this was their first year fund raising for ALS.
