Swim
Comments: Came up to soon on a wave and my googles wound up around my neck. Had to stop and pu them back on. Because of this I got stuck behind some slower swimmers which took sometime to get through. Transition 1
Comments: Got to my rack and my sunglasses weren't in my helmet anymore!! I thought someone took them but I found them on the guy's towel next to me. I did everything I needed to do in the order intended this time. A lot of times I take out my earplugs (custom, swimcap and goggles before trying to get my arms out of the suit. Then I wind up dropping an earplug which I have to stop and find. Feeling good. Bike
Comments: They don't have my bike split listed!!!!!! I am so pissed as I was tearing it up. My speedo said 46.20 which would include running time in transitions. This was a top couple of percent split to. I really want to see proof and my exact ranking!!!! I was going considerably faster than those on the course. I pretty much had to stay in the passing lane the whole time (no - I didn't block anyone. There was no one behind me). I did come very close to having a very nasty accident. One guy from one of the local companies that had a few hundred participants was on the right as I was going by and he must have decided to see what the left of the lane was liked as he drifted out there for absolutely no reason. Him drifting forced me into the path of one of those road construction saw horse things. I still don't know how I avoided hitting it head on. I somehow pulled myself around it by the width of my lycra. The guy said he didn't hear me so it wasn't his fault (STAY TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE!!!). What would you do differently?: Not almost die. Seriously. Transition 2
Comments: Yeah no time recorded. What would you do differently?: Not look like I came in from my swim, took a 47 minute nap in transition, and then go out for a run. Run
Comments: Both calves locked up as soon as I got out of transition. My plan of just going as hard as I could the whole way was starting to seem like a real bad idea. After about 1/4 mile they loosened up. That was one painful quarter mile! Post race
Warm down: Went back in the Ocean. Played with the kids. Event comments: I signed up for this race the day before I left for IM CDA as everyone said to sign up for something to keep myself motivated after I got done with IM. It turns out this was more like a dark cloud hanging over my head than something I wanted to do. I really enjoyed not having a rigid training plan as well as drinking alcohol again :). I also had some weird injuries, such as broken toe, that weren't exercise related to contend with. I think I rode my bike 3 times between IM and this race and ran outside 3 or 4 times. This is a fun day at the beach but it really isn't a race to go and be "serious" at. It is a big party for celebs, local corporations (Disney, Amgen, Dreamworks...), and TNT who all have hundreds of participants. It is a completely different atmosphere than IMNA events (70.3 and IM) which I prefer over the party atmosphere. It is nice as it is a local race only 30 minutes from home so no hotel and very easy for the family to attend and view. I think this is the first race they saw me during every leg. The kids did the tot trot and they are still talking about it. They love their medals and walk around the house carrying their swag bags. So, while this is not a "Serious" tri it is a fun event. If you know that going in I would highly recommend it. Last updated: 2006-09-20 12:00 AM
