Swim
Comments: I wasn't too worried about the swim. As people say. Survive the swim. The water was low, current in our favor. Only when we hit swimming depth, apparently the girl in front of me had cut her foot on the shells, as I put my face under all I could see was her trail of blood. Everytime on the open swim, I would swim out, the random swimmer kept dunking me. What would you do differently?: Get stronger. Not start in the middle. I don't want to get stuck in the mid-pack, can't swim straight dunkers. Transition 1
Comments: The transition was bad for me. I felt slow here, although still glad as this was my 1st. The person across from me, put their stuff under my bike tire and couldn't get my bike off the rack (frustrating). I had to put my insulin pump on so it takes me a little longer (fresh water needle sight). Making sure I had my helmet. And I am terrified of my bike!!! What would you do differently?: Hang my bike by the front wheel not the seat. Glad I had bucket, towel and water bottle to stand on and rinse sand with. Run and hurry faster remember on the clock still! And no socks (although didn't take much time) Bike
Comments: Just keep pushing. What would you do differently?: Not let the old hag "40-something" who buzzed passed, yelling, "Hey 20 somethings get off your @$$ and ride!" bother me! Next time, remember she is probably a soccer mom w/o anything else to do. And this is my 1st and definitely not my last Transition 2
Comments: It was chaotic into sharp slow turns back to the transition area. Still skiddish of a bad fall off the bike while training. I don't ride with feet clipped into pedals (braving myself there). Had a good transition for myself. I remember struggling a little get bike back on the rack. Shoe lace gave little trouble to get on (with new slip laces). What would you do differently?: More practice on transitions and comfort with quick exiting of bike. Run
Comments: Played leapfrog with some folks. They were nice. Hubby finished up and then came back and ran me in for the finish. What would you do differently?: Kick butt and take names. Be better prepared. Post race
Warm down: Walked around. Felt good. Talked to some people I knew. And picked up stuff from transition area. Walked to the hotel, took a shower. Enjoyed the post-race party. Headed to the sports bar and watched Auburn pick up their first loss of the season to Arkansas. So disappointing there. What limited your ability to perform faster: The head wind on the bike was so strong. I konw at least 2 people flipped their bikes. It is hard with an insulin pump. I need to learn the rules of if I can be handed my pump instead of waiting till transition. Would make things a little faster. Event comments: The race was good. I think it has been better in the past (this coming from others who have done this race many times -ie my husband etc), but just happy to be able to race with hurricanes etc. We were happy for the wonderful weather. Weather was amazing. Couldn't ask for a more beautiful day. Proud to call myself a triathlete now, if only for a spring distance. Next is the 1/2 Ironman Last updated: 2006-10-13 12:00 AM

Hubby and I had a hotel at HGI for weekend. Dad and Kim had come into town to watch the race. I didn't sleep much. Checked blood sugar. I wear an insulin pump so watched my blood sugar all morning. Made sure I had everything. Went to the start line and transition to make sure everything was as I wanted it. 3 times.
Got in the water before the start. Cold front was late coming through. Was a bit chilly. Water was warm. It was nice to take the edge off and the nerves by getting comfortable in the water first.
