Pre-race routine:

Racking bike, sorting out gear by the bike and getting into my wetsuit.
Event warmup:

Went for a short run along the beach/foreshore and then a swim to warm-up prior to swimming out for the deep water start. The Water was very cold so added a second swim cap.
Swim
  • 44m
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 56s / 100 meters
What would you do differently?:

I neede to do navigation more often as I did it after every 20 strokes and this took me quite a way before I could reset the direction.
Transition 1
  • 00m 2s
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really, pretty happy with the transition.
Bike
  • 1h 25m
  • 40 kms
  • 28.24 km/hr
What would you do differently?:

Felt a slight twinge in a leg muscle so did not push the bike as hard as I would have liked but pretty happy with the overall ride.
Transition 2
  • 00m 2s
Run
  • 58m
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 48s  min/km
What would you do differently?:

Pretty happy with the run but could have done with a little more fluid.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Getting a faster swim is probably going to make the most difference at the moment, but pretty happy with my first Olympic distance triathlon. Have one more sprint Tri prior to Christmas and then it's the Half Iron-man on the same course at the beginning of January.

Swimming
00:44:00 | 1500 meters | 02m 56s / 100meters
Age Group: 0/58
Overall: 0/183
Performance: Below average
The water was quite choppy due to an onshore breeze and the waves were coming mainly across my good side for breathing. The swim was very testing and the first time I have done that distance in a race.
Suit: Orca Speedsuit
Course: This was a 2 lap course with a exit of the water between the laps. Course went out from the jetty around a buoy through some anchored yachts parallel to the shore before a right hand turn towards a buoy by the beach another right hand turn and back to the first buoy in shallow water parallel to the beach. There was a strong current on the second lap which pushed us into the shore so navigation was an issue and caused problems getting around the buoys if you were inside them, at one point the current took me about 50 metres further past the buoy than I needed to be.
