Run
Comments: Good strong run. The toughest part is running on the sand. Shortening the strides helped. Tried to hang on to 2 of the people in my AG for as long as possible. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Bike
Comments: I pushed myself, knowing I need to finish in top 6 to qualify for the Worlds. It was windy, but I stayed aero, in big chain ring and kept cadence high most of the race. At 5k or so, I actually passed Jimmy Georgas (age 81, many times World Du Champion). I've never passed him on the bike before. Later on, Jimmy passed me back, then I passed him one last time at about 18k. Passed many people in other waves, but only 1 in my AG. Got really close to another one, and left T2 ahead of her. My bike has really improved this year. Averaged over 30kph for the second consecutive race. YEAH!! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Run
Comments: Tried to run as hard as I could and not let anybody in my AG passed me. On the way back, running on the boardwalk, I saw the Olympic competitors all lined up across on the beach in a straight line . They're going to have a mass run start on the beach! John Salt, race organizer, really knows how to make the best of a bad situation. So the swim got cancelled, why not give these people a beach start they'd remember? Quite a sight, for a moment, I forgot I had a job to do, then I remember and pushed as hard as I could all the way to the finish chute. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: HSBC series almost always give you real food, not just bagels and bananas. In this case, we got pizza!! When I checked the results, it says I was 3rd in my AG. I was esctastic, I only need to be in top 6 to qualify. Then they announced TriCan Board has to meet to decide whether the du results can still be used for 2008 Tri Worlds qualification. Then I waited for the awards... then came time for my AG. Jodie announced that the 2nd place finisher in my AG was incorrectly entered on computer as a 6 year old so "sorry Patricia, you're bumped off the podium". RATS! Oh well, I hope TriCan will arrive at a more favourable decision for me. Event comments: Strong winds, whitecaps and undertows made the swim unsafe, so organizers changed the tri to a du. Triathlon Canada Board will have to meet to decide whether the du results can still be used for 2008 Tri Worlds qualification. If so, my performance today will mean I qualify for 2008 Worlds... crossing my fingers for a favourable TriCan decision. Update Sep 10 - TriCan confirmed results will be used for qualification. I'M IN!!! Vancouver, here I come. Last updated: 2007-01-12 12:00 AM

Picked up race kit the day before and stayed at Blue Mountain (30min from race venue) the night before. Arrived at venue 1hr before start time. 1/2 hr before start, organizers made the final decision to change the tri to a du because strong winds, huge waves and whitecaps meant the swim would not be safe for all. Kudos to John Salt, the race organizer, who always put safety first. No race, no even a Worlds qualifying race, is worth risking peoples' lives.
