Swim
Comments: The swim start was a time trial one which kind of made it easier for me to find my pace on the first 200m; each racer left at a 5 second interval. There was a bit of a current but I was able to manage. I had to stop a couple of times to re-align myself as I didn't get to work on my navigation skills much during my two OWS practice sessions. The water was warm and I am now wondering if I would have done better without my wetsuit. Overall, I was pleased with my first competitive OWS. What would you do differently?: Practice, practice, practice!!! Transition 1
Comments: I was surprised at my transition time, I didn't think I would have done as well as I did with the wetsuit on. What would you do differently?: Nothing! Bike
Comments: Overall a good bike segment. I had Warren's Zipp wheelset on and that helped a lot. I used the big chainring on about 85% of the ride. I lost my focus a couple of times but managed to get back on track. My shoes were clipped in already and I didn't struggle hopping on the bike as much as I did in Montreal last May. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: Another good transition for me, even if I had to put my running socks on. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I did not expect to have a great run. Because I had been sick for the most part of June, I wasn't up to par with my running abilities. My race goal was to complete the run in 50:00 and I ended up finishing under that time so I'm happy with that. What would you do differently?: Nothing, the bronchitis was something I had no control over during training. Post race
Warm down: Few stretches while waiting in line for food. What limited your ability to perform faster: Only had a week and a half to train for my run after being sick and recovering for three. Event comments: This race was very well organized, I had a great time doing it and I will certainly do this one again next year. Last updated: 2007-01-20 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30, showered and had breakfast (muesli pita, small banana, peanut butter, coffee). My gear bag and bike were ready from the night before, just had to wake my partner up and off to Welland we went. We left Mississauga at 5:50 and got there shortly before 7:00.
I would have liked to warm up in the water a bit but it was a little cool out of the water for me to stand around in my wet wetsuit waiting for the race to begin. I settled for dynamic stretches instead.
