Pre-race routine:

Race was at 8:30 at night. This late time threw me off as I'm more used to morning and mid afternoon activities.

Walked around a bit, did some shopping, had some balanced meals, lots of water and carbs. Listened to music.
Event warmup:

I was reluctant to do much of a warmup because my breathing wasn't great and i didn't want to use up my energy during the warmup.
Swim
  • 24m
  • 750 meters
  • 03m 12s / 100 meters
Comments:

I had to pause 10-20 seconds at every lap. Form was pretty good up until lap 5 (out of 7) My breathing rhythm really sucked, I could not get into a good rythm, but my form wasn't too bad. My head was too high, I may have been kicking too hard. My endurance was also poor.

I haven't swam enough in the past weeks.
What would you do differently?:

More drill work, more endurance work. Work on my breathing.

Push myself a little harder.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition was excellent. I had shoe horn, but didn't use it/need it. I had bungee laces with old NBs. Transition went well.
What would you do differently?:

I should have taken a puff of my asthma medication there and then. It would have prevented my running problems.
Run
  • 35m
  • 5 kms
  • 07m  min/km
Comments:

By lap 8 out of 25, I could not breathe. My asthma had kicked in and nothing was working. I apparently looked grey and ashen. my pace slowed down to slower than a walk. I stopped, took in some water. Took a puff of my medicine, walked half a lap and then picked it up. My pace got progressively faster. I felt stronger faster and happier after that.
What would you do differently?:

Do more intervals. Build my breathing.

I consciously didn't want to "just" run. I really raced in the last few laps. Next time I really have to do this durning the whole race.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much of one.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

ASTHMA and lack of swim readiness

Event comments:

All good.

Pool was set to long (50 metres) water temp was warmer than I'm used to and air was particularly humid. Heart rate (probably from excitement) was a lot higher than I would have expected. I could feel it beating in my chest and my breathing rythm just wouldn't catch on.
