Run
Comments: I had drank about a half bottle of water before the start. Only had about a half mile to the mat and after walking two miles I was sufficiently warmed up. I passed the water station before the bridge not remembering that there would be no water on the bridge. Thankfully it was cool and overcast although a little humid. I could have used a drink of water while on the bridge but they had water available just as you came off the ramp. Streets were a little cramped and warm but at the last water station I grabbed a cup of water and yelled for the volunteer to throw a cup on me so she nailed me in the back with a cup of cold water and it sure felt good. What would you do differently?: Carry a small bottle of water on the bridge. Post race
Warm down: Walked around. Got my sweat bag. Had water and an orange. What limited your ability to perform faster: Old age and gravity. Event comments: OK for the bad news. After finishing I (along with 1000's) figured I'd walk down to Market St and get something to eat or drink. No such thing. Walked a couple miles for nothing as they were closed. Went back and caught the shuttle back to Mt Pleasant. My hotel was at the foot of the bridge and the shuttle dropped us a paltry 4 miles away. Soooo I enjoyed another long walk as there were no cabs or local buses. Everything else was good. The course is awesome. I've never been in a run with this many people and it is unbelievable. From up on the bridge I turned and looked back and the runners looked like a 2 mile long human organism snaking along the road. A friend of mine and I tracked our distance to see how far you'd run around other people and the distance and the time adds up as you are constantly weaving to maintain a steady pace or the pace you desire. We both came up with an extra 2/10 th to nearly 1/4 mile extra. I will probably do this race again but I'll have my return logistics better planned. I liked staying in Mt Pleasant as the close proximity to Shem Creek puts you near some excellent restaurants and watering holes. I wanted to break 1 hour but it was not to happen. I know now what I have to to make it happen. It's not just training but strategy. Last updated: 2007-02-17 12:00 AM

Light breakfast, coffee, and water.
Walked 1 1/2 miles from hotel to start line. Then walked another 1/2 mile before jumping the fence and getting in line. Race pace categories were not being enforced as far as I could see. Seen a lot of walkers very close to the start.
