Swim
Comments: The lake was low so a lot of people were walking. I tried it, but it felt harder than swimming, so I swam as much as I could. Very happy with this swim. Haven't swum much in the past month because the Y pool was closed for almost 3 weeks. Last year my time was 40:08 and my goal was 35 minutes so I am very happy with this time. More importantly I came out of the water feeling good; no dizziness, and breathing under control. I don't like my swim training very much because my Y pool is pretty dreary and I don't like to be indoors, but I always love the swim in a race. What could be better than the excitement of race day with all the other athletes, swimming in a beautiful lake, and even the occasional bump with another swimmer. What would you do differently?: Swim train more. Transition 1
Comments: Had some trouble getting the wetsuit off, and also getting my socks on, but not too bad. What would you do differently?: Move faster. I've tried running and biking wothout socks, but I don't like it. Maybe powder my socks to help them go on easier. Last year was 4:45 because I was falling over dizzy, so that's why I was so much faster this year. Bike
Comments: Happy with this ride. Last year was 1:27 and I wanted to beat 1:20, so I met my goal and improved by 10 minutes over last year. Pretty good. I think this is a great course; Flat for around the first mile so you can get your bike legs going, then a nice climb to get good and warm, some rollers, then, towards the end, a fast descent followed by flat so you can get your legs ready for the run. Nice scenery too. Saw 3 Mennonite buggies, and they all waved back and smiled when I waved at them. Luckily I didn't have trouble with the pickup and dump truck that other people had. Towards the end where you meet back up with the sprint people, it did get a little congested with racers which made passing a little difficult. I made a couple of passes where I passed someone who was passing someone, so we were 3 abreast. The only thing I wasn't happy with was I faded a little towards the top of the 2 bigger climbs. Considering I've only ridden about 150 miles in the last month that's not too bad. All in all a great ride for me. What would you do differently?: Push myself climbing a little more. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty good. I just got Yankz which was very helpful. My daughter made fun of me for wanting to save a few seconds with freaky laces, but I was only about 5 seconds in front of the next person in my age group, so I guess it made a difference. My daughter still thinks I'm a dork, though, but what can you expect from an 18 YO ;) What would you do differently?: Not much. Maybe take my feet out of my shoes on the bike so I can run faster through transition instead of clip clopping along. Run
Comments: Well my goal was under an hour so I'm a little disappointed especially since this is jst about the same as last year. Not sure why I ran so slow. I had a little trouble getting into a good breathing rhythym in the first mile, but other than that I felt great, and this is a flat and fast course. My PR for a 10K is 54 something, so it's not like I was that much slower than usual, but still I should have done better. I think it's a lack of confidence; like maybe I worry that I will blow up at the end, so I take it too easy at the beginning. I felt strong at the end and even finished with a nice little sprint (not much of a sprint, really, but good for me). Too bad I didn't have a watch, because I'll bet my second loop was considerably better than the first. What would you do differently?: Push myself from the beginning. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, grabbed a bite. Really good post race food. Hung with some BTer's. It was great meeting everyone. I would list everyone but I'm afraid I would leave someone out because my memory isn't what it used to be and it was never very good to begin with. I included some pictures below. Really had a great time at this race. It was a beautiful day, I improved over last year, and I met my goal. I may not be real fast, but I sure had a good time. What limited your ability to perform faster: I don't train enough, and I'm not real fast. I lack some confidence which keeps me from pushing myself. Probably wouldn't hurt to lose 5 or so pounds either. Event comments: I really like this race and hope to do it again next year. Last updated: 2007-02-19 12:00 AM

My oldest son is a student at RIT so we drove up the night before for a visit which was really nice. Up at 5, got out to the car and realized I had forgotten the car keys. Duh. Didn't have a hotel room key either so I knock on the door a few times and no one wakes up. Uh-oh. Called my daughter's cell phone and luckily she had it on so she let me back in. The drive from Rochester to Canadaigua was nice; still dark and I had a great view of the big dipper to the North. Was behind someone with a Tri bike on their car. I always like to see the bikes on cars when I get near a race; makes me realize I'm not the only one who thinks it's perfectly normal to get up before sunrise to go jump in a lake.
I did this race last year and didn't do very well, so I wanted to do much better this year. Last years time was 3:17 and my goal was to break 3 hours.
Just a little jogging. Chatted with marmadaddy before the race; he's a really good guy.
