Run
Comments: I was really excited to run this race. This was my first "big" road race with spectators, etc. It was really exciting! I had decided to start out with a strong, but reasonable pace and see how long I could sustain it. For me, that is 9 min/mile. By the time I got to 6 miles and was still holding that pace and feeling strong, I started to get excited that I might actually beat my goal (2:09). When I reached the 10 mile mark at 90 minutes, I realized that I might actually beat my stretch goal as well (2:00), and that really motivated me to keep pushing the last few miles to the end. Much of the last mile of the race is over a bridge and downhill to the stadium. I used that downhill to my advantage and then pushed hard on the final flat to the finish line. What would you do differently?: Nothing! Perfect race! Post race
Warm down: Walked through a finish line maze where people handed me water, a medal, accelerade, a blanket, snacks, sandals, etc. By the time I finally wound my way through, my heart rate was down and I was ready to find my family. Event comments: Need more bathrooms at the start! Shouldn't have to wait 45 minutes to pee before a race. HOWEVER...I really enjoyed the race and plan to do it again in the future! Did I mention that I beat Eddie George by 6 minutes? Ha! Last updated: 2007-03-08 12:00 AM

Woke up at 3:45am, showered and got dressed. Met at a friend's house and drove downtown together, ate some oatmeal in the car and drank a gatorade. After parking at the race finish, we stood in a long line to take a shuttle bus to the start. Upon arriving at the start area, we stood in an even longer line to use the porta-pots (45 minutes in line). The first corrals actually started the race while we were still in line.
Stretched a bit while waiting in the endless lines, and then jogged lightly from the porta-pot area to the start corrals. I was supposed to start in corral 9, but actually started with corral 11 by the time I got over there.
