Run
Comments: Started out pretty good. I was pacing off a guy that was going to run the 1st mile in 6:45. The pace was alot faster than I thought because I hit the 1st mile in 6:20, and finished the 2.1 miles in 14:08, which was a great time, but I was already feeling it and knew I had 2 bike legs and another run to go. What would you do differently?: I probably started out too fast and suffered a little on the first bike leg, but it worked out OK. Transition 1
Comments: Took my time and got a drink because I was already sweating pretty good. Bike
Comments: This was my 1st race with my new Trek Equinox 9, and I must say it made a big difference. I got on the bike and started in a high enough gear so I could spin for a while and get my legs under me. After the first run my heart rate was fairly high and wanted to try and bring it down a little. After a few turns we got on the Dam road that was long and straight. This is where I started to pick off some riders and was hitting 24-25mph on the way out. We had a slight tail wind, so the ride back in was a little slower, but was able to pass some more riders, and was glad to see that even though I finished 7th in my age group I had the fastest bike split in my age group. I guess I still need more work on the running part. Toward the end of the bike leg I slowed a little and was spinning to give my legs a little break before the next run. What would you do differently?: Have a better pace in the 1st run, so I'm not so winded on the first part of the bike. Learn to drink more on bike. I was really thirsty when I finished. Transition 2
Run
Comments: The second run started off a little shaky. I have been doing some bricks to get my legs ready, but race pace is always different. My right hip and knee were bothering me in the first 3/4 of the first mile, and I was worried about finishing the race, but it slowly went away at the 1 mile mark. The second half of the run was better and the slower pace actually helped me on the second bike leg. Transition 3
Bike
Comments: with my 2nd run being at alittle slower pace, my legs felt really good on this leg, and I actually had a faster split on this leg. I passed 2 people right out of the transition area, and then was all alone for the next 6-7 miles. I fianlly caught the next gut with about 1-2 miles to the finish. It was hard riding with very few riders on the course because there was never that next rider to catch down the road. It was just pushing to keep the odometer as high as possible. On this leg of the race I did a better job of staying in thr aero position, and that helped me have a better second split. Transition 4
Run
Comments: After transition, there was about a 15 yard run to the finish. I'm glad it wasn't too long as my legs were trashed. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and had some bagelsand gatorade. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need more run time, but that will come. I've lost 36 pounds since December 7th, so I'm alittle weak from the weight loss, but that should slow down and I can get settled into a routine. The calf problems I had in Jan. and Feb. are behind me know so I can slowly build more running base and get to where I want to go. Last updated: 2007-03-30 12:00 AM

Woke up and had a bagel with peanutbutter, then headed to the park.
Jogged about a mile. Legs felt a little tight since I hadn't run much in the past week, but they felt a lot better than they did at the TMS duathlon.
