Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:00 and showered, ate a PB sandwich on toast, loaded the car and headed to the race with my brother (he was doing the tri). Got to the race at 5:45 and was able to get a prime spot in transition. Set up my things then went over to get my timing chip and get body marked.

Photographer snapped a picture of me adjusting my shoes in the transition area. Obviously, the coffee had not yet kicked in...I looked VERY tired.
Event warmup:

Jogged around and stretched a little.
Run
  • 19m 18s
  • 2 miles
  • 09m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a great run for me. Did the first mile in 9 minutes. Slowed down a bit at the 1.5 mile mark to get ready for the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 00m 55s
What would you do differently?:

Use Speed Laces (check out my comments on T2)
Bike
  • 43m 23s
  • 11.8 miles
  • 16.32 mile/hr
Comments:

I have not trained hills much this year...and it showed.
What would you do differently?:

Hills, hills and more hills.
Transition 2
  • 02m 39s
Comments:

Without even thinking, during T1, I took off my running shoes without untieing them. When I got into T2, I had to get them out of their double knot.
What would you do differently?:

Get Speed Laces
Run
  • 30m 3s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs felt great out of T2. I had popped a Gu in T2 and took a good drink of water. I kept a great cadence, but decided to walk for a minute at the 10 minute mark. Got to the big hill about 3 minutes later and walked up that hill...took about 2 minutes to get to the top. Didn't walk any more except through the last water station.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure I would do anything different. I didn't want to walk, but I am glad that I gave my legs some much needed rest. Not sure I could've kept up the overall speed without that walk break.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water and walked around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training on the bike, especially hills.
