Swim
Comments: Swim was pretty good. My arms gave on me at the buoy, but then I heard chriswest yell at me at the buoy, then he passed me. I tried to keep up but let him go. The second half of the swim was really the hardest part. I might have gone too hard in the beginning. I was swimming in 14:30's in the pool before this, so I think I could have done a bit better. Overall, I was happy with the swim though. What would you do differently?: Pace myself a little better. I probably would have had the same time if I slowed down a bit in the beginning and kept that same pace throughout. I probably wouldn't have been so winded at the outlet. Transition 1
Comments: Once again my nemesis strikes....the transition. I can't seem to get a good one out of the water yet. My suit got stuck on my heels, I couldn't breathe, My socks wouldn't go on right away, and my helmet took forever to get on. Other than that, it was ok. What would you do differently?: Last year's transition 1 was 3:09, so at least I improved. But holy crap it was 3:09??? Oh well. Bike
Comments: I have gotten to know this course pretty good. BUt I still think I could have pushed it a little more. Chris and I found out too late that you were actually allowed to draft, and I think that could have helped me. A group of about 9 people passed me up within the first 9 miles, and I was pissed about it. But I would have latched on if I knew it was ok to do. That would have made a huge difference. I improved from last year's average so overall, I am happy. I ate 2 gel packs and drank only 1 bottle of water/gatorade. Should have drank more. What would you do differently?: Drafted for sure. I think I could have pushed it a little more on some of the flats. Last year avg = 19.6, this year = 19.9. Would have been nice to be in the 20's. Transition 2
Comments: I tried something new by keeping my shoes tied. The first shoe worked great, and I really thought I had something good going, until I tried my other shoe, disaster. After a few expletives, I finally got my other one on. The problem was that I stepped into it too fast without using my finger as a shoe horn and I mashed down the heel of the shoe. Oh well, I still think it was faster than normal. What would you do differently?: No rush. Last year's was at 1:35, so again, I improved. Feel good about it. I would still like to get this transition below 1 minute. I think that is very doable. Run
Comments: I felt pretty good for the run. My goal was just to not walk at all, and I accomplished that. It was pretty short, so I didn't stop to drink or anything and I ate a gel pack right before the last hill. It gave me a good boost to finish out. What would you do differently?: I think I did what I could on the run, it was pretty much just up to my legs. I couldn't have done anything differently really. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and drank some pop, ate a hotdog and a cookie. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think I hold too much back on the bike because I fear I won't be able to run. I really need to work on pushing harder on the bike, that will improve my overall time I think. Last updated: 2007-07-10 12:00 AM

We got to Huntington at around 8 pm the night before. The house I stayed in wasn't air conditioned for a week. It was BOILING HOT IN THERE! Tooke me a while to get to sleep. Probably turned in around 10pm, fell asleep probably around 11 or so. Woke up at 5 am, ate 2 oatmeal squares, one orange, and a big glass of water. Got to the race site at around 6:45, just in time to register.
None. I swam about 50 yards or so right before the race started. I ate a banana and drank some Gatorade about 20 minutes out and ate a gel pack about 10 minutes out. Overall, I think I ate around 600 calories before the race.
