Run
Comments: I wanted a finish time of four hours. When I got to the starting area I looked for a break in the fence to get in with the other runners. As it happened, I got right in behind the four hour pace setter. I looked at it as a positive omen for my quest. I had no trouble running an 8:58ish pace for 13.1 miles. By mile seventeen I was spent. My hr had been running around 179-182. Way too high for a four hour race and I think it caught up with me. My calves were the first to go, leaving me with dead legs. As much as I didn't want to, I had to walk, to try and get my heart rate down. Miles 18 thru 22 were miserable and I just wanted to lay down on the side of the road but an Ironman doesn't quit. Besides, I didn't have a ride back. I did the run/walk routine until about mile twenty-five and just sucked it up and ran the rest of the way. The picture was taken near the finish and I had just enough strength to smile. Post race
Warm down: Food, food, food! What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training, and a little thing called IMCDA. I think the ol' Ironman is still having it's affects on me. Event comments: I'm officially in the off-season now. I'll look to break four hours in the Eugene Marathon next April. Last updated: 2007-07-24 12:00 AM

Up at 5am. I had oatmeal and some coffee, then a power bar and water.
I walked briskly to the starting area, probably 4 blocks.
