Pre-race routine:

Left work at 5 on the dot. Changed and drove to the Executive. Just talked with people, and did some jogging in place - little stretching... used the POP.
Run
  • 38m 39s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 13s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

Didn't truly taper for this or anything, but this was really just a measurement race. Just want to see where I am at so far. Conclusion: I am no where near where I need to ne for my marathon. Good news: I've still go 3+ months!
Post race
Warm down:

Jogged back to cheer on other runners from my club and Joe from UPS.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

10 extra pounds, and not in top form yet. Also in marathon build phase.

Event comments:

Really excellent race! Lots, and LOTS of Voly's - enthusiastic, and having fun! VERY nice little post race BBQ and awards ceremony under the tent. Great to hang out with folks for a bit afterwards. 3rd place got me a free membership for a month. Christine said she got a nice bag and 6 months free membership last year - but not this year. .

Performance: Good
Lap 1 5:58. Felt like it was a good pace -Knew it would be tough to keep for all 6, but was just about my goal pace. lap 2 6:28. I'm a little suprised I dropped by this much as I passed 3 or 4 people. was also passed by Tim Roy (who just ran VT 100 on Saturday!?!?!) Also, Mile 2 is all uphill. lap 3 6:12 seemed to go on forever. Got lost with all the turns out there... lap 4 6:09 Started to really tire. Lost track of ho many miles I had gone - was thing I was in mile 5 for a bit (wishful thinking) lap 5 5:52 Determined to finish strong, and scared to death that 100 mile Tim was going to catch and pass me again!! lap 6 5:58 Where the hell is the finish?!?!!? Finally!....
