Swim
Comments: This was A LOT of fun. The current was pretty strong and the waves were really rough. The buoys they had set in the water wouldn't stay, so everyone just swam out, took a right, and turned in once you could see the transition area up on shore. I charged and swam in at an angle. I went all out to fight getting over the waves. This seemed to be the best way to go. After that, I just kept sighting and made sure I had some people around me at all times. I kept closer to the shore than most people. Definitely got rolled over a few times by the waves...but it only added to the excitement. What would you do differently?: Nada. Transition 1
Comments: It was GREAT coming back and seeing all the bikes on the rack. Bike
Comments: I almost got blown over. Starting out was all headwinds, and riding along Atlantic Avenue parallel to the shore was the toughest bike moment of my life. I kid you not, my bike actually skidded side ways and I almost lost it like 5 times. Still, all in good fun! It was hard to pass people because the lanes were so narrow. Also, there was a lot of first-timers who kept a slower pace, so traffic got a little congested. Everyone looked great though - and there was alot of smiling faces. I just kept encouraging people on the course. Drank about 20 oz GE. What would you do differently?: Eh, maybe pushed just a little harder. I need to learn how to work with that wind! Transition 2
Comments: Yes, no bikes on my rack! Run
Comments: Running down was great. After I got into the grove, I hit the turn around at 12:30. Right after spinning around the cone, the wind hit me right in the face. Slowed me down a bit, but otherwise it was good. I loved seeing everyone running towards me and also running with the people on the way to the finish line. There was alot of great encouragement, and I love seeing everyone having a good time. Pretty happy with my time considering I did no speedwork, and a 1/2 iron a week before! Drank no water and didn't stop at aid stations. Just ran. What would you do differently?: oh nothing, I had fun! Post race
Warm down: Placed 3rd?! Really? Now I'm pumped. Event comments: Great race and a good challenge. The crazy conditions (ocean start, wind, etc.) make it a lot of fun. Plus, who doesn't love the beach? I would definitely recommend it - but maybe consider getting another sprint under your belt first. Last updated: 2007-08-07 12:00 AM
