Swim
Comments: i never experienced this before...i was in the lead, or pretty darn close to it. i usually stay in the middle back cos i hate getting trampled. but i was in the 2nd to last wave and i paid attention to the level of swimmers on this course, then i looked around at my group, sized people up and put myself right up front. i was drafting off someone then cleared away and i didn't see anyone else in front of me. I started to wonder if i was going in the right direction! As i rounded the first buoy it was just me. Then i noticed some people on their backs from earlier waves and i just kept going. there were clearly a couple of others to my left, one to my right. as i was rounding the 2nd buoy i realized i went out a little too hard - did a few laps of breast stroke to get my breath. someone passed me rounding that 2nd buoy - she was closer than me. whatever. all in, i think i wound up being 4th or 5th in my AG out of the water. What would you do differently?: If i had actually been training, i could have smoked everyone and been first in my AG. ah well - no biggie. next time! :) Transition 1
Comments: all good. no idea how much time i took in here - maybe 2-3 min. What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: i pushed myself most of the way - i figured i could always walk on the run. i felt good - the course was basically flat w some small rollers, nothing to speak of, if i could handle them w ease. :) What would you do differently?: like the swim - train. and bike more. :) Transition 2
Comments: i started to put on one of my bike shoes instead of my other running shoe. haha! What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: ugh this sucked. i run on a hard packed dirt trail a lot at home and near work but this was literally sand very little hard packed areas made the run hard. it was rocky too. i like train runs but this was not a trail. whatever. i was tired and walked more than i would have liked. i had to stop and stretch out my calves just as the trail was starting - they were tight and that helped relieve the tension. What would you do differently?: well train appropriately of course!! Post race
Warm down: walking around What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of training. Event comments: this year i hear was a little more organized than last year. started 30 min late due to waiting for the DOT to clear the bike course and ensure it was safe to race. Overall, this was a fun race - it was a good sprint distance, glad i could do it and finish in a reasonably respectable amount of time with little to no training. :) but this made me realize i better step up my training for Malibu in 4 weeks.
