Run
Comments: For the first 6-7 miles I stayed with the 3:30 pace group and then dropped back a little. ~49:00 10K was a PR. Kristi passed me around mile 10, and keeping her in sight helped pace me for the next 2 miles. I saw Coach Gary at Mile 11. I could tell at that point that I wasn't going to make 1:45 but was going to PR (<1:55) and beat last year's time (2:06), and I just kept the same pace until the end. Mile 1 - 8:06 Mile 2 - 7:56 Mile 3 - 7:42 Mile 4 - 7:55 Mile 5&6 - 16:02 Mile 7 - 8:13 Mile 8 - 7:59 Mile 9 - 8:12 Mile 10 - 8:20 Mile 11 - 8:17 Mile 12 - 8:51 Mile 13 - 8:23 *** .02 - 0:52 To train for this I did a 6-month program (year 2), and it's mostly a Saturday long-run program and we're on our own during the week. One weakness was I didn't do any speedwork at all this season. Everything was easy pace (9:30-10min/mi) because I was focusing a lot on swimming. I thought trading all that pool time for speedwork was going to hurt this race more than it did, so I'm happy it ended up working out. I'm really liking swimming so I'll keep it up.
