Comments:

I planned to go out the first 6 mile at a much slower pace which I thought I did. But I should have gone a little slower. I stretched my slow pace to mile 7 aid station, I then started to pick my pace up to what I had hoped would be my race pace of 9:30 miles. I wanted to keep most of the miles at a sub 10:00 mile. I was able to hold this pace until about mile 18 and then I started to slow and by mile 20 I knew I was going to begin the suffering. The last miles (23 on) were not that much fun with a combination of run/walk I was able to finish the race out. I was surprised at how fast I fell off and how much more work I need to do in order to finish stronger.
What a great learning experience. I know my current trained limits and I know that I can go further.

Holy crap I did a marathon.
What would you do differently?:

I need to increase my over all weekly miles. Not just add miles to my long run but spread that distance over all my runs. Continue with the speed work but add some longer tempo (3x20min) runs and not as many mile interval runs.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched while waiting for my 20 minute massage. Drank a water bottle of Recoverite. When I got home I took a bath with 2 bags of ice. I also iced down my legs with Ice bags that I made. 1 part rubbing alcohol and 3 parts H2O and freeze. Makes a great ice bag that forms to your body and stays cold for hours.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My endurance

Event comments:

No post race activity to speak of. Ok finisher’s metal. Had results posted fast!!!! Same day and not days latter like most races.

Course: The City of Trees Marathon & Half Marathon follow beautiful courses. Both start and finish at the Owyhee Plaza Hotel, our race headquarters. They take runners on Warm Springs Ave and Harrison Blvd., two of Boise's most beautiful and historic neighborhoods. They weave around several parks and cross the Boise River. The courses finish by taking runners around Boise's historic Train Depot and down Capitol Blvd with our majestic Capitol building in view. The courses are generally flat with just one gradual up-hill on Americana Blvd and gradual downhill on Capitol Blvd. The elevation of Boise is 2840 ft, the course is entirely flat except a tiny uphill on Americana and a tiny downhill on Capitol Blvd.
