Swim
Comments: I forgot to start the timer on my HRM, so I have no times for the individual splits. I started in the back and let everyone get out ahead of me. I took the first 100 really easy, nice long strokes and really focused on not panicking. Rounded the first buoy and realized that I was really slow and started to pick it up. I had to stop a couple of times to catch my breath. For the most part the swim was good, just *really* slow. What would you do differently?: Start the HRM timer. Build endurance for the swim. Transition 1
Comments: The wetsuit is really thick, so I had a hard time getting it off my heels. Once that was done everything else was fine. Put on socks and shoes, put water bottle on bike, put on sunglasses and helmet. Run with bike out of transition. What would you do differently?: Point my bike the other way so that I don't have to run around the rack to get it off. Hey, it was my first time so cut me a break! Bike
Comments: This was by far the most fun part of the race. As soon as I left the transition area I started passing people. I was hammering it, but not so much so that I pooped myself out. I probably passed 30+ people and was only passed once (53 year old lady on road bike). I really tried to keep my cadence up on the hills and spin towards the end. What would you do differently?: Go faster! Transition 2
Comments: I stopped short of the bike dismount, it was confusing so I lost some time there. Other than that T2 is easy. Rack bike, helmet off. Pick up hat, race belt, and run pack and head towards the run start. I put all these things on as I was headed out. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Running is hard for me, but it went ok. I tried not to walk too much. I think I probably only walked three times. What would you do differently?: Train for running more. Post race
Warm down: Stand there sucking breaths. What limited your ability to perform faster: Endurance and weight. Event comments: Great first time race. I am an official triathlete now! Last updated: 2007-08-27 12:00 AM

I woke up at 6:00 a.m. and ate a Clif bar and some oatmeal. I also had a cup of coffee. We were staying at a hotel about 15 miles from the race, so I wanted to leave by 7:30 (9:00 start) to leave time to get situated.
We got there by 8:00 and I went to registration and got my number. Went to body marking and got tattooed. Finally, went and set up my transition area. I chose a spot I thought I could remember, fourth row in, next to the tree.
It takes me a while to get my wetsuit on, so at about 8:40 I jogged around a little and got in the water to put the suit on. By that time it was nine and the first wave was about to take off. I swam around for a little bit to get adjusted to the water and get my heart rate up.
