Swim
Comments: Everyone in the women's sprint started at the same time, so it was a little chaotic at first. I tried to hold my own and not panic with the kicking and punching that was going on. Between the first and second buoy I got a little freaked out as my wetsuit felt really tight and I felt like I couldn't breathe. I slowed down a bit, caught my breath and kept on going. From the second buoy, I could see the finish line and was about halfway, so I focused on slow and steady, bilateral breathing, and just kept on going until my feet touched the bottom. Happy to be done with that! Face was frozen by then. What would you do differently?: Practice swimming a lot more!!! Transition 1
Comments: It was a long run from the water to T1, uphill. Wetsuit came off easily. I decided to put on a long-sleeved shirt at the last minute, since it was really cold outside. That took a few extra seconds, but it was worth it! I had shoe warmers but didn't put them in, unfortunately! What would you do differently?: Shoe warmers! Lay optional clothes out instead of digging in the bag for them. Bike
Comments: There were lots of course marshalls on motorcycles yelling at people to leave three bike lengths or pass....it was hard to do all the time since it was so crowded and there were often 3 people side by side. It didn't really let up the whole time. I pushed pretty hard the whole way, ate a gel about 1/3 into the race. What would you do differently?: Drink more water. Weigh less so I can climb better. Transition 2
Comments: Really fast transition for me. No problems. What would you do differently?: Make sure race number was attached to belt better, as it came off halfway and stayed that way. Run
Comments: Since I had missed the pre-race meeting, I didn't hear them say it was two laps, and almost crossed the finish line before realizing I had one more lap. Duh!! 12 minutes would have been a heck of a good time for 2.8 miles!! My feet were numb from the bike for a long time, but my legs felt pretty strong for the whole run. I had a new sports bra on and it was very supportive, which I really appreciated. What would you do differently?: Warm up bike shoes, attach race number better. Post race
Warm down: Nothing much, drank some water. Eventually wandered to the BBQ and ate some food. It was very cold out afterward, in fact, it didn't go above 50 even by noon! I was very happy that I had brought a fleece hat with me to wear after the race, and my fleece coat, too. What limited your ability to perform faster: Being tired out from waking at 3 am and being unable to fall back asleep. It was not the kids' fault, just my anxious brain!! Event comments: My main complaint is that there were too many events going on simultaneously--sprint, tri-it sprint, Oly tri, Oly du, and half marathon. The organizers didn't post results or mention an awards ceremony even 90 min after I had crossed the line. It was really cold so I went on home. I don't know if they were waiting for the Oly to finish, but there were still bikers coming in as I was leaving the park. My other complaint is lack of toilets. Wasted a lot of time in line. It was a really pretty state park in an area I hadn't been to in many years. I like that it didn't start until 9, so I didn't have to leave home in the middle of the night to get there. If only it had been a teensy bit warmer today!!!! I am not sure I will do this one again next year, as it was pretty congested. And no swag! None! Last updated: 2007-09-13 12:00 AM

Got to the race pretty early and totally lucked out on a parking spot--otherwise would have had a long trek. Got my number and set up my transition area. There were preassigned racks, so that was easy. Unfortunately my rack was pretty darn far from all the entry/exit points. Waited in the world's longest bathroom line, missed the pre-race meeting (more on that later). Finally got back and put my wetsuit on, grabbed Lynne, whose rack was next to mine, and we went to the start and had a couple of pictures taken while we shivered. It was cooooold!!!
Nada. Swung my arms around, stretched my legs. I knew it was going to be a cold swim so I waited as long as possible to get into the water.
