![]() Run
Comments: My "A" race is a 1/2 mary in Feb and today I had a 115 minute run on the schedule. Knowing my long runs are getting longer and harder for me to stay motivated I started looking for a race to use as a training run. I found this one on active.com last week. It's a 5k/10k run with a option to do both. Perfect! I have made a lot of improvement the last 2 months and have been wanting to race for a 5k PR. I hadn't run one in awhile so I knew it would be easy to PR and if I worked it I could PR by a lot. So the plan was to shoot for a 5k PR and take it easy for the 10k to get my volume in for the day. However, I bought a new bike this week and i HAD to take her out for a long ride on saturday. And of course I had to see how fast she could go. I went out way to hard, fast, long and bascailly everything you shouldnt do the day before a race. But hey, this is training not a race :) That said, I felt pretty good! the course starts uphill. There are 3 hills in the course but there are also 3 downhills so it evens itself out. Im pretty sure I ran the first mile in 10:59, I had lap splits but when I ran the 10k they got cleared out of my watch. :( Anyway, the chips all started at the same time (WTF?!) but stopped when you crossed the timing mat at the finish line. According to my watch I ran 34:54 not 35:08 which is my offical time. My goal was 35:30 with my super special goal being sub 35:00. So I am very pleased with my performance here. I did walk up one big hill at the end and I flew down the last downhill to the finish line. Probably at a 9mpm pace. What would you do differently?: Not go on a 47 mile bike ride the day before;) ![]() Post race
Warm down: Tried to keep warm and keep moving. I had a 10k to run. THen I realized "oh CRAP, I need to PEE" I looked at my watch and I had only 10 minutes to the 10k start. Porta pottie line was insanely long. Made it just in time. What limited your ability to perform faster: Going on a 47 mile bike ride the day before. Lack of hill training. Event comments: This was a really fun race. Very well organized, tons of nice volunteers, pretty and scenic (BUT HILLY!) course. Nice goodie bags and expo. I would totally do this next year. Woke up and went to the race website to get directions. Website down. Lovely. I always have something to make me panic before a race. Eh. Go to active.com get address etc...Crisis averted.
Checked in, got goodie bag etc. Very well organized race.
Light jogging, some stretching and trying to stay warm. it was freakin' cold. The pic I attatched is my paparazzi parent stalking me. And me going "GOD LEAVE ME ALONE!"
