Swim
Comments: Oh my. The day before the race I went for a short swim in the pool, prior to that my last swim had been my last race. Almost 2 months earlier. I seem to finish MOP swim and BOP on the run and the bike. So I pushed the swimming to the back burner to focus on running and biking. Did I pay for that here. Also, I have never worn my wetsuit top for such a long swim. Only a few practice OWS. Most everything else I wear just the bottoms and a tri top. The top is kinda tight in the chest, I think that is how it is supposed to fit. That makes me kinda panic and anxious and I think i am beginning to have an asthma attack. :( I did have to stop a few times and catch my breath. This was hard for me. Man, it felt like I was swimming out there forever. It was kinda rough at first but by the time the first buoy came up I was in a groove. The distance from first to second buoy however...that is another story. It felt like a mile! I just couldnt keep up with any feet I found, they were all too fast or swimming off the line. I felt like I was in the water forever and a day. After awhile I started thinking how I wanted to be on my bike. How much I love my new bike. More than anything, she makes me happy. Then I thought about how that guy in england got in trouble for having relations with his bike. Did you all read about that? I started thinking how I better be careful or that would be me in trouble. Then my mind really drifted away from swimming. Just what, exactly was he doing to his bike to get in trouble with the law Then I sorta pictured myself grinding on my top tube like it was a mechanical bull. At that point I started laughing and swallowed some water, realized that I am single and it's been WAY. TOO. LONG. Looked up, saw the shore was getting closer and dug deep! I went too hard and ended up having to stop to catch my breath. I wanted to be out of th water SO BAD. Finally, finally my hands hit mud and I got up and ran. YES!!! I was able to run all the way to transition and to my bike. My feet had gone completely numb. I saw Sealiongirl again and told her I had drafted off her for a little bit but she was too fast for me. She said it was an awful swim for her, I said me too. But I was expecting to have a lousy swim and off we were to our bikes. oh the beloved bike. What would you do differently?: Oh I don't know. Maybe swim more than once every two months. For how little Ive trained my swim, Im ok with it. Transition 1
Comments: Time is guessing as it both Ts are added to bike split. Dear lord! I sucked it hard here. What the heck took me so long!? I didn't even put on any warm clothes like I planned, just the jersey. Gloves took awhile to get on. Have to work on that. Felt like I was there forever. Even my mom said later "WTF were you DOING? You took forEVER" Thanks mom :P I did have to dry me feet off, they were so totally numb that I could barely get my shoes on. Then when I went to mount my bike I couldnt clip in. What would you do differently?: Not suck. Go faster. If warmer not wear a jersey. Gloves? I don't know I NEED gloves so I'll have to work on that somehow. Bike
Comments: OMFG!!!! Was I 6th in my AG for the bike. NO WAY I DO NOT BELIEVE IT!!!!!! I am thrilled thrilled thrilled with that. Espcially since I didn't think I was a strong cyclist. Wow, this made my day :) I love my bike, can I say that anymore? No really, I LOVE my bike. Took me a bit to get in the swing of it and really have fun. Probably pushed it a bit too hard. Stayed in the saddle and spun up all of the hills. Took the 2nd lap a lot harder and broke a new speed record for me. 40.7 mph! Awesomeness!!! There was one patch where the road was really bad but for the most part it was great and I was loving it. People on the course were nice for the most part and I felt really strong out there. And, I love my bike. :) What would you do differently?: Have more fun and go faster :D More hill training. Transition 2
Comments: Got off my bike, and witnessed a pile up. Eeek! Later my mom told me there was quite a few at the bike dismount line. She said "it was weird the people falling had no shoes on!?! Did they ride with no shoes?" Then I explained to her the whole get out of your shoes on the bike trick. Then she got it "OH YEAH!!! I saw people do that and pull it off, man they were pros! Wow and some of those people were FAST!" I could see the total excitement in her eyes. She's hooked on being a spectator and has already asked me when my next race was. She looked sad when I said the season was over. I think I see race entry fees as gifts in the future :D Back to my much improved T2. Would have been perfect if I had speed laces. But I don thave them, so it took to long to tie my shoes. I keep meaning to buy some and I keep forgetting! Other than that T2 went great. thankfully my rack was the first one nearest the mount/dismount line. Barely had to run in my shoes at all. Rich, they were assigned by wave I just got lucky :D What would you do differently?: Get speed laces. Run
Comments: I SUCK AT RUNNING! :( 11th on the swim, 6th on teh bike and 19th on the run. Man, if I could shave 5 minutes of the run I'd have been in 7th overall. I must get better at this :( Wow, I went to hard on the bike. But I wanted to and I knew that. Took about .75 of a mile to not hurt really bad. I knew the pain would stop so I just kept running. When it did I tried to go into my happy run place I go into every morning before work. Didn't really get there. I walked the uphills and ran the downhills. A few times I almost lost it on the downhill, they were quite steep and gravelly. Wish I had split times. But hit mile one and felt good. Hit mile two and thought "Wow! That was quick." Mile 3 was a bit brutal and uphill, pushed thru. Mile 4 was fairly easy. The last 1/2 mile I ran as hard as I could. Ended up having to stop to catch my breath and then run again. had a good strong finish, probably could have gone a little harder. Well, I always feel as if I can go a little longer but not harder. Who knows. Overall it was a good run for me and I was happy. Oh, and I have to say it is not so bad being a slow runner. Getting passed by all the nice looking boys makes up for it. Too bad they didn't put ages on our calves. I always like to play "Guess how old the hottie is" Im always amazed that I see ripply perfected bodies and on the calf the number starts with a 4 or 5 :) Like I said single girl and it's been way too long. I was having to restrain myself from making call outs like "hey #171 NICE LEGS!!!" What would you do differently?: Nothing. Just need to work on my fitness and I am. Oh, maybe I should have called out to #171 and said "nice legs" NOTE: I am using 171 as an example. 171 might or might not have great legs. I honestly don't remember which bibs I was considering hollering at :) Post race
Warm down: Got a bottle of water and two cookies and packed up my stuff.Talked to guy in the Turkey costume. What limited your ability to perform faster: Being waaay too fat, and not nearly as fit as I should be. Event comments: Poorly organized but fun race. Great t shirt that actually fit me. Gorgeous course Last updated: 2007-11-01 12:00 AM

I had packed up my stuff the night before. Ate some crusty french bread with almond butter, stopped for gas and a quad espresso at Starubucks and headed to Bonelli.
When I arrived the event was running really behind. Of course being triathletes we're all Type A obsessive people who show up early. Well, by 615 there were a lot of very concerned athletes wanting to know which line to stand in. and why there wasn't really a line at all!? And hey, just what is going ON HERE?!?!?
Eventually they got registration open with much delay and confusion. Oh, it was really really cold too. I get my bag and size S shirt, finally a race shirt that fits well enough to wear anywhere other than to bed! Nice goodie bag and off to transition to set up. I had quite a bit of time since there was a 10k starting an hour before the tri. I was in the first wave, as were all women. That kinda freaked me out I was worried about missing it.
I saw Sealiongirl in transition :D whee! I turn my garmin on so it wont have to locate signal when I first get on the bike and it says the battery is dead. WTF?! I thought I charged it! Damn it! I was this close to brining my polar along as a back up and to get a swim time but I thought I'd look silly with two watches and wouldn't want to take the polar off in transition. GAHHH!!
Oh more confusion ensued when we all realized there were no numbers for our bikes and helmets. Just a bib. So me and about 7 other people start questioning volunteers about that and body marking. We eventually got an answer "wear the bib on the bike" Then "ok, front or back" I think they finally were like "OMG THESE PEOPLE ARE CRAZY!!" And told us "just wear them wear ever you want ok!?" LOL!
The 10k started 45 minutes late and the only saving grace at that point was we could see the sun starting to emerge from the clouds and the fog lifting. We all kept hoping for the race to start late enough for it to warm up and it did. :D
