Swim
Comments: Visibility was very low and my goggles were fogging up a little, so I watched for people on my right and left when I turned to breathe. Every once in awhile I popped my head up and made sure I was still following the crowd. I passed a few people from the wave ahead of mine, and got passed by a few from the wave behind me, but most of the people around me were from my wave. What would you do differently?: More open water training and more swim training in general, but I was fairly satisfied with my performance. Transition 1
Comments: My suit got stuck on my heels because I forgot to unzip the legs before I tried to take it off (oops). Everything else went ok. What would you do differently?: Not mess up while taking off my wetsuit. Bike
Comments: I tried not to go too hard, but I still passed tons of people, especially on the hills. However, I had to go to the bathroom, which made me not want to drink, so I did not take in enough fluids and was a little dehydrated at the end. I did have some shot blocks, but only about 12oz of gatorade. What would you do differently?: More fluids! Transition 2
Comments: I took a little more time than I probably should have. This was partly because my Bodyglide melted and I ended up making a big mess with it. Put shoes and hat on, downed a Gu, and started to leave without my race belt. Turned around, found race belt, and dodged a few people who were in my way as I exited. What would you do differently?: I just need to practice my transitions more, so I don't mess up and forget things. Run
Comments: The run was a struggle for survival. I was a little undertrained because of my knee issues, but what affected me the most was not having drank enough on the bike, plus I was uncomfortable because I had to go to the bathroom. Soon after I started I was walking, and after the first mile or so I came across a line of port-o-potties. I figured it was worth the extra minute or so, so I went. After that I felt better, but still hot and I couldn't keep my heart rate down, so I alternated between walking and running. I think I got passed by at least as many people as I passed on the bike! At about the 6k point I started to feel better since I been drinking a whole cup of gatorade and dumping water on my head at every aid station. I started running and didn't stop until the finish. What would you do differently?: Train more and drink more! Post race
Warm down: Had some food and water, found my spectators, sat around for a little while, and then had to hike up the big hill to get to the truck. What limited your ability to perform faster: This was my first olympic distance race, and a difficult one. I made a few mistakes, but still got through it, and learned a lot. My goal was to finish in under 4 hours, so I am happy. Event comments: Wildflower, see you next year!!! Last updated: 2007-11-05 12:00 AM

We arrived early Saturday morning and set up camp, and finished just in time to sit in our campsite and watch the pros start to fly by on their bikes. After watching the race for awhile, we walked down to the festival area. We ended up walking back and forth a few times, plus all the walking around at the festival, and of course finding bathrooms. It probably wasn't the best idea to walk several hilly miles in the heat the day before my race, but I had a good time.
Woke up early, packed my things, checked over my bike, biked to transition while my husband and sister broke down our camp. Set up my transition area, ate a clif bar and had some iced coffee. Tried to stay warm, walked around a lot, watched the first few waves take off, spent a few minutes with my entourage, took some pictures.
