Swim
Comments: I was really happy with my swim performance. I passed five people and one passed me. My time includes running to transition, so I swam at the time I had expected (hoped for). There were a couple of times where the turns were crowded, which slowed me down a little, but I really did feel great during the swim. I think this is my strength thus far. I was certainly pleased with 11/30 in my group. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: I'm not sure if this was a good time for me or not. I'll have to get a few more races under my belt to tell. I forgot my sunglasses coming out of transition. I also had a bit of trouble clipping into my pedals, but it wasn't anything major. What would you do differently?: Grab my sunglasses and a gel. Bike
Comments: I am not pleased at all with this time. My biggest problem was that I had NEVER ridden that far on my bike. In the beginning I was worried about overdoing it, so in the end I underdid it. I picked it up alot at about mile 9, but it was much too late. What would you do differently?: Go hard from the start. Get lower. Practice ALOT more!! Transition 2
Comments: I was happy with this transition. I slipped my shoes on easily and took my tech shirt off that I wore during the bike. I remembered my sunglasses and my gel this time. :) What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I am really happy with my time. This is the first time EVER that I have run an entire 5K. Not my best time ever, but pretty darn fast for me considering the other events. I had said that I would be thrilled with anything under 30 minutes. I am also really happy that I was 15/30 in my group. It seems like most triathletes start out as runners. This could not be further from the truth for me. In January I couldn't run a 5K in under 30 w/o the swim and bike added in!! In November I couldn't run a mile w/o being EXHAUSTED!! This is a huge improvement for me and I can't wait to continue to see that time drop. What would you do differently?: Nothing. My time wasn't great, but it was great for me! Post race
Warm down: No time for a warm-down. My mom and sister met me at the finish line with the kids and we gathered my things up and left. Since I had that late start time, we had been there for FIVE hours!! Everyone was exhausted. What limited your ability to perform faster: The fact that I suck on the bike. Seriously though, my lack of 'real' bike training was my main limiter. At least this is something that I can improve on! Last updated: 2008-01-02 12:00 AM

I actually got a fabulous night of sleep before the race. I had to get up at 5:30 am, but I went to sleep at 9:30, so I felt great. I ate three blueberry waffles and drank a Diet Coke. I took a blueberry bagel with peanut butter and ate it an hour and a half before the race. I also drank about 60 ounces of water.
I was in the novice group, so I started at the very end. There were over 450 participants, so my start time wasn't until 10:45. The winners finished well before I even began to warm up in the pool. It was great though b/c I got to watch the pros in the transition area before I had to go into the pool.
I swam about 200 meters as a warmup and stretched a bit. That's all.
