![]() Swim
Comments: Race started and upon entering the water, my right goggle completely filled with sea water. I tried rolling to my back and dumping it a couple times, but it kept filling. Was worried I had ripped it. Eventually I decided just to suck it up and swim. Swam like that for 10 minutes or so, then decided to try again. Finally got a seal, and kept going. Ughh... My drafting was horrible. Even worse, when I did try, I followed a group of people heading to the wrong buoy. Once the lead swimmer noticed this, we all changed directions and had to swim out a few hundred meters more. Overall, not a very good swim. Still had fun with it though. What would you do differently?: Buy new goggles. Test the goggle seal before the start. Not blindly follow the pack, no matter how big it is. 21st place out of 36. 12:00 behind 1st. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: LONG run to T1 from the water, but it went well. Got out of the wetsuit as soon as I got up to the concrete, and then just ran with it from there. Definitely think this was a smart move, as I was in and out of the actual transition area very quickly. Spent 10 seconds throwing my Garmin 305 on, but I'm a tech geek, and knew I'd regret not having the data if I skipped it. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Good T1. 8th place out of 36. 1:27 behind 1st. ![]() Bike
Comments: Felt strong on the bike, but didn't push overly hard. Settled in and just maintained good speed. Stayed aero except for the 180* turn around points. Took 2 Hammer gels, 1/2 a bottle of my carbopro/hydralyte mix, and a full aero bottle of water. Really had to take a leak, but absolutely refuse to go on my bike. Was hoping I'd sweat it off, but knew a pit stop was in my future. http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/5333500 What would you do differently?: Better planning to utilize course provided nutrition and fluids. I carried all my own stuff, but it ends up they were handing out the same stuff. Would also like to pick up an aero helmet, but doubt this was a factor. Overall, decent bike. 9th place out of 36. 7:20 behind 1st. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Another good transition. Wiped off my feet the best I could, threw on my running shoes and took off. What would you do differently?: Nothing. 6th place out of 36. :16 behind 1st. ![]() Run
Comments: After exiting T2, I ran straight to an open bathroom. Lost a good 30 seconds there, but figure it was worth it. First mile was a little out of rhythm, but things evening worked out fine. Overall, I was reasonably happy with my run, though I'm definitely not fast. I haven't seen the official time sheets yet, but I assume I'm going to have lost the most amount of time to my other age groupers here. Also, I thought it was just a blister coming on, but I must of missed a small rock and it ended up doing a number on the bottom of my big toe over the run. Can't say this affected my time any though. I just don't have a very high cadence, and when I try to step it up, it just doesn't go well. I need to get to some of the local track workouts. 21st place of 36. 11:50 behind 1st. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Stretched a little. Grabbed a hot dog, some oranges and a banana. Just kept drinking a lot of water and Gatorade. What limited your ability to perform faster: Definitely need to work on my swim drafting. Also, though I didn't have a nutrition issue, I didn't stick to my plan, and this could be costly in longer distances. Though I never cramped up today, I was caked in salt in the end. Definitely the saltiest I've ever been. Considering the FL 70.3 race is going to be considerably hotter and twice as long, I definitely need to focus on my electrolyte plan. Finished 14th out of 36. 25 minutes behind 1st place. Event comments: Awesome event. Though not the glitz and glamor of a larger event, this was an incredibly well run, smaller event. Definitely enjoyed every minute and was actually sad for a few moments there when I saw the end. Will be back next year for sure. Last updated: 2008-01-04 12:00 AM

Met up with Mikkel, which was awesome. Just really got a chance to relax, look around, chat about the race, etc. Definitely a lot more fun being there with someone you know (even if you just met them). :)
Jogged a little w/ Mikkel. Nothing crazy.
